Do these rules apply to the corral also, and will they be looking through our cars as we enter? I can adapt to the rules but thought I would ask to avoid problems for others. I am guessing that bringing in the normal detailing equipment is not a problem.
I believe this just means in the actual Grandstands and the Pits, everywhere else anything goes. The "grandstand gates" are the openings in the fences around each grandstand (where they would check grandstand seat tickets for some events). In other words they aren't saying you can't bring a big cooler past the Entrance gates like Gate 2, you just can't bring one into the bleachers.

Edit: Found the details on the Glen website: http://origin.theglen.com/media/wgi/flash/12_WGI/#/12/
We will be fine with the usual stuff.

Hey Tyree, thats only for the grandstands, because of safety, In case you have to clear out the grand stands in a hurry for a misshap ,and no unbrellas are because it blocks the view of others . I know the event is getting bigger , but last year we had our pop up tents and anything else we wanted in the corral. They are not going to check anyones car . At least as far as I know . Last year they had only around 2,000 people at the event and it was the most ever.

^This. And to add to that, the corral last year for the Rolex Race consisted of 3 Camaros and 5 Corvettes. Below is what they're planning for this year.

I think it is possible that most of the first timers to a Grand Am weekend are going to be surprised to find out how few spectators there are at the Glen. In the past we have never been bothered about our umbrellas or coolers. Every section of the course was open for viewing including all grandstands and we just walked through the garage areas like we owned the place. Of course everything could be different this year.
We have always had a great time and are really looking forward this weekend.

Rest assured if you are not allowed somewhere. There is someone who is more than willing to tell you where to go. Grandstands..FREE!! They say there's a Jumbotron in turn 10, I would be surprised, but would be nice to see. If you are a walker and there are a lot of dirt roads and some paved up there, bring your hiking shoes/sneakers. I love walking around the track, so if you want better viewing areas than were the corral is. Chance of rain Friday, expect mud, but corral area should be just fine. All roads to corral ARE paved!!! They may ask you to pop your trunk open to look for stow aways, but this is unlikely. When we are at WalMart I can address any details you might need.

If you are arriving later. Enter thru Gate 2 ONLY! You will travel straight up the hill, under the track thru the EAST TUNNEL. At the top of the hill stay straight on Finger Lakes Rd. Thru the first stop sign to the second. At the second stop sign turn RIGHT on SEAGRAVES Rd. Follow signs to the Camaro Corral.

The corral area will be open all weekend, but you can park ALL MOST anywhere else, when ever you wish. If you like to meet other members for lunch/dinner etc meeting at the PYRAMID at noon, rather than walking back to the cars. Although Sat. we will all be together anyways. Have fun!!!
