what a bunch of ford crybabies. They had to bring out the 50k GT500 to whoop the SS's ass. I would hope so with over a hundred HP advantage.

Put a LSA equipped Z28 in the mix with almost equal HP/weight and the Chevy is going to make some new boots from the cobra

Ford didn't do the comparison though, so it's not their fault.

Z28 doesn't exist yet... Can't really try and compare performance for a non-existant car (though I imagine it'd probably be hitting the CTS-V numbers, slightly better then GT500 numbers).

I drove my friend's 2010 GT500 and it is a good car, but I still like my Camaro SS better. Regardless, it's what you like, not anyone else.
Yes, I have driven a Camaro SS. I had/have no bias opinions to any car company when i was looking at a car. Just wanted to buy American which is more than some people can say. But, I mean seriously, throw out all fanboi opinions(if possible). The Camaro is a sweet car, no doubt. But in comparison to the gt500, I have driven both, I had a camaro on order, if what you say is true, your friend either got a complete dog or ?????. You say the camaro looks better than the gt500, i say depends on what angle you are looking at. Performance, there is no question, not debatable, not even in the same category. I'm talking strictly about car performace here. Even things beyond performance. Navigation is not even available on the camaro. Navigation on this car is sweet. Look at my pictures and the snake that pops up every time you turn the car on and says good morning to you or good afternoon. Little crap on this car is pretty cool IMHO. I can change the colors on the numbers of my guages, the circles around my guages, my cup holder lighting, the lighting that comes out by my feet or by the back seat, the lighting that comes from my interior door. They can be the same colors they can be different colors. SYNC is also pretty cool. It's just crazy. My pics suck by the way. I can set a RPM shiftone and shiftlight. I can pick a certain RPM and when I hit that RPM i will hear a noise and a certian light will go off. I could go on and on. Very few people are running 12.9's in a stock Camaro. People talk as if this is a daily feat.

$8,000 difference, is that even enough to Supercharge and tune a Camaro? forget about suspension.

On another note I paid $29,000 for my 2006 GT off the showroom floor and now have a total of $40,000 invested in it. so for just $2000 more than a Camaro I have 125+ more RWHP.
A camaro does not cost $38,000. It CAN, but one can get the same power out of a 1SS, which starts at $31,xxx. So, really, you got your 125+ HP for about $9,000 more than a camaro.

Maybe you should read this before you start adding numbers up.

Here we go again ... instead of getting your numbers from an autoblog, why don't you contact HPE directly like I did. They will send you a price sheet and you'll see that the numbers I quoted are correct. Nice try though!

How about HPE site itself.

http://www.hennesseyperformance.com/...ctionReq=Where

" 2010 HPE550 Camaro
562 hp. Starting at $59,500. Available from your local Chevrolet dealer or directly from HPE. Only 500 will be produced for the 2010 model year. Now taking orders. "
If you have this sheet, just post it. If you want to compare the Hennessey to a Shelby, maybe you should look at the Supersnake. That would be a great race.

Mark... do more research before making a "defense" post HPE is selling the complete car for $59,500, not the HPE550 package (which is still less than the original $70k figure quoted)

As I stated in my previous post, you can buy a 1SS Camaro that is $30,245 MSRP and add the HPE550 package for $14,950 installed. If you don'te believe me, call HPE on Monday and they will verify or send the HPE rep on the board a PM. The average buyer will not buy the complete car from HPE, instead opt for the more economical route which is stated above.

There were really only a few things that stood out after he drove my SS... The biggest differences seemed to be the brakes, tires, and rear end traction. Also, he noticed a difference when going through turns as the SS seems to grip tighter. Although the GT500 is faster, he really couldn't tell a difference when driving both. The last thing is ego, he gets pissed every time we go cruising and my SS gets more attention from people than his GT500.

I still don't see there you can get the package installed for $15,000. We are talking about the Hennessey that was reviewed by Edmund.com right. The car they reviewed was $63,000 and the parts not installed are almost $20,000. Still not $70,000 but not close to $43,000. We are your facts?

Mod that is interesting. Because the Camaro was out before the Gt500 2010 hit....he did not drive a Camaro then ? It a little interesting is all I am saying. A GT with a track pack on it is just as tight as a Camaro. actually tighter....so a GT500 which already has the upgraded suspension feels less tight ?

And of course if he feels he will get more looks in the Camaro, by all means. Trade. It will all go away by the fall...once more camaro's become common. Then it will come down to just "how nice" you have your car. Just like it did for Mustangs when the s197 platform hit, or any truthfully any new car that makes a return after a absence or gets restyled.

+ 500lbs

The shelby was hot shit when it came out. But that was years ago, and no one outside of the enthusiast crowd even cares about the 2010 GT500.

Mark, do you really have that much pride that you can't just admit when you're wrong? The price of the HPE550 package is not advertised on their website. Give them a call and request a price sheet, so you can apologize.

Sorry, but if you pull into a car gathering with a GT500, there will be a flock of peeps gawking at the Supercharger and taking pics......even more so for the 2010 model. Folks that know cars know that it is an American Supercar, not just a sheep in wolf's clothing. They made 3,000 GT500s last year.
