Take a fully equipped GT500's pricetag and subtract the price of a fully equipped ZL1.

Take that amount of money, and dump it into the performance of a ZL1.

Which one will be faster?

Kind of like you know who saying the ZL1 would beat the GT500 to 60?

Trying to think of a single decathlete.... Cause I can think of plenty of sprinters

The sprinter also stopped shorter, and probably won't overheat as quickly either.

It'll be interesting to say the least when these cars are on short and long road courses.

I think gm is going to have to seriously up their game if they want to keep up in the HP war. Although its not all about HP to me...I'd still take a ZL1 over a gt500 given the option...

Bruce Jenner, for one...

We'll have all the answers, and GOLD medals given, by London-time...

EDIT: For those of a certain age, Rafer Johnson's name means MANY things besides decathlete...

With the push by Ford to bump the HP to Corvette levels, it's only fair to compare the GT500 to it.

Of course there have been some Mustang guys here that probably have begun that comparison since it does exceed the ZL1 by a fair margin when it comes to the straight line contest. It seems that is the most prominent and dominant discussion between the two camps since a large majority view it as the least expensive option on the basis of entrance fee at a sanctioned track. But I believe either way, it's a proposition not for the faint of heart when it comes to doling out the wallet for each hobby.

There are those from the Chevy camp that want the ZL1 to compete with the GT500 but I think it is a better comparison to the Boss LS since it is their twisty track star and there already has been comparisons from the mags. Ford, in my opinion, has quietly begun it's progression to competing with Corvette. Maybe not the ZR1, yet, but definitely with the Z06.

It's my own opinion that I don't think that Chevy will come out with an HP increase for the ZL1 until the Corvette does also, but that is left to speculation, which both camps like to engage in. I think that if the Ford boys want to have there day in the sun, so be it, but it's just obvious that Ford's intention all along was not to compete with the ZL1. Yes, there will be those of you that will counter that Al O. stated that we would give the GT500 something to think about, but even he could not predict what kind of monster they would produce and what their true intentions were. The numbers don't lie.
First off, Ford did produce a competitor to the Corvette recently, not as far back as the '50s. It's called the Ford GT. But it's a very lopsided comparison since the GT was F/I and at the time, the 'Vette's weren't.

Secondly, comparing the F/I'ed ZL1 to an N/A BOSS is just ridiculous. The GT500 and ZL1 are the cars in their class to compare each other with.

Wow. You'd make an awesome Harley Davidson owner as well.

Agreed. It wouldn't take much for either the ZL1 or the GT500 to match each other performance wise. A little more power from the ZL1 and a bit better suspension setup on the GT500 and they're equal cars.

Me personally, the styling of the 2010+ Camaro is so over the top that I just cannot see myself in one. Having said that, I absolutely love '68-'73 Camaro's! I wouldn't mind having a '71 Camaro to restore to factory stock, but with a little extra under the hood.

Forget the Shelby (we knew it would be faster with a 100 more HP) BUT why is the ZL1 slower than the CTS-V???. It also seems like a 12.5 1/4 mile is the REALITY of the 2012 ZL1:(

Wasn't Prefontaine a distance runner?

Prefontaine was a world class cross country runner too. So bends, corners, & elevation changes seemed analogous to a road course.

Then again cross country is off paved surfaces mostly so that aspect would make it an irrelevant analogy.

Unfortunately, that seems to be accurate. People said wait for more times, but the more times that come the more they are in the low to mid 12's. The GT500 on the other hand is in the 11's.

I am also disappointed in the ZL1 being pulled by a bolt-on Boss 302. Yes, I understand that the Boss was modified and the ZL1 was stock. However, the boss is a 444 naturally aspirated motor stock and the ZL1 is a supercharged 580 hp motor. My disappointment comes from how simple and basic the bolt-ons were for the boss. I would be more forgiving if the boss had to get into engine internals for mods to be able to pull a ZL1. It didn't.
