M5 is available in 6 speed manual and 7 speed SMG, one thing is that the M5 has 2 modes as mentioned previously, regular mode provides 400 HP, M mode provides 500.

don't know much about the MBs

and just for future refrence, it's Bimmer I'm on E90 post and they get all worked up about that for some reason..lol
HAHAHAHA I ran my cousin's modded 135i several times at the track, very close competition until he ran a 17 second 1/4

A friend of mine has a 2011 S4 and does a consistent 13.0 1/4 mile with an intake.

I believe we're talking stock vs stock, AGAIN.

If they are both stock and the drivers are equal...

The BMW 1M and M3 would be the closest competition but both quicker. The M5 and M6 also quicker.

I think a lot of it has to do with weight, gearing, and the ability to really use those every bit of those rpms.

I beg to differ...Anything AMG new model will not crush a SS. M3s M5 M6 I have beaten them all. Also remeber some AMG series comes stock S/C'd

The SS can run even with a BMW M3, 1M, and x5/6M on straights. M5 and M6 are slightly faster in all categories. Again this is with newer models. An SS will take respectable older models such as E39 M5 or E46 M3.

Ive driven all mentioned except 1M and X5/6 M.

I am going to be the voice of reason...

Camaro SS coupe... $32,000 up to $40,000

M-anything, AMG-anything, Audi S-anything... Well over $50 to $100K

Stupid comparison.

Why not throw in the GT2/GT3... I bet they can take a SS too!

Also, you'd be surprized what a modded M6 Camaro will do... espescially with a good driver.

You know that they compare the 5.0 GT to the M3 right and the OP asked for the equivalents. Those are the equivalents, both the M3 and 1M Coupe would fair very well against the Camaro especially with the M-Dual Clutch Transmission. Sure if you are talking about price wise then yeah there is no comparison but the M3's interior is also a million +++++ times better than the Camaro, its really sad to because the Camaro Concept interior was actually better than what the M3 has now IMHO.

I have also seen where "they" compared a Lotus to an Apache helicopter... and a Bugatti to a Cesna... does that make it logical?

Why they compare the GT to the M3 is beyond me. And maybe the BMW interior is better... I would sure hope so. It IS a BMW, not a Chevy.

That race was a roll on(advantage for Camaro) against an M3 hardtop convertible, which has a curb weight of 4100-4200 lbs. With the passenger and driver you can bet it weighed 4500 lbs. + The M3 would need 470 hp + to run with LS3 or 450 hp + to run with L99(horsepower to curb weight), in theory.
