My best friend and roommate has a 2012 5.0, I've driven it pretty hard and him likewise with my SS. While we throw little jabs at each other from time to time its a nice car. One thing I like alot is the clutch travel. Its a night and day comparison to what we have there is hardly any pedal at all there. Car pulls nice too I am trying to convince him to put a little wider rubber on it though cause those skinny 18's in the rear sure to like to spin instead of grip and rip. I'm surprised with the power that that car has that they put such small tires on it.

We are about to do LT header install on it and watched a video on how to and its going to be a huge project. Where as our SS is just plugs wires dipstick O2's and out, these things require steering disconnect starter removal, motor mount pull all kinds of stuff. Not looking forward to it lol

It's made in China, but not by a Chinese company. The plant there is a joint effort between Ford and Getrag, which is a German company.

Correct. But that does not make Getrag a Chinese company. It's just where the tranmissions are assembled.

I've owned 5 Mustangs...two of them new. I traded a 7500 mile 08 Mustang Bullitt for this Camaro (Youtube video):
and I have never regretted it. I got almost retail for the Mustang (I think the manager wanted it) and when Camaros had dealer markups, I got a discount as well.

One of the sales guys is in my SS class at church and he invited me down to drive it. So, I did....we put about 30 miles on it and I have to say I left fairly well impressed. It was a 6m and I knew Randy didn't mind me getting on it when as we got to a place to run it hard, he reached over and pressed the traction control button to off and said, "go ahead, burn a little rubber if you want". Even at that, it didn't burn a lot of rubber in first and I got chirps in second and then 3rd. $36K...no Brembos or gears, but leather, ambient lighting and the bigger wheels. Had it over red line a couple times and it pulls hard...not as hard as my modded Camaro, but I was impressed. Interior about on the par with my car but the dash is nice softer material than ours. Awesome, but not as awesome as my Camaro, SEMA's hottest car for the second year running!!!
I've always liked the look of the Mustang. My first ride was a '69 w/ a 289. Anyway, this is exactly why I won't buy a car with 'test ride' miles on it:( Probably did not hurt it but I want to be the one beatin' on my car.

I understand it's not a Chinese company (I google it) but that still doesn't changed the fact that they are crap. Anyone that thinks otherwise just needs to google "2011 mustang transmission problems". It's ford best kept secret until someone makes a big class action lawsuit...

This is EXACTLY why I order my cars. The future owner thanks you for beating the crap out of his car before it was broken in.

Maybe you don't need to break them in easy, but give the owner the choice.

Funny, had my 08 bullitt for 3 years and 5500 miles. Got a great trade and it sat in the showroom, first ford in over almost 60 years for the dealership.

Not the original motor I assume? Considering Ford stopped making the 289 in '67 and replaced it with the 302.

You are correct that the 289 was not available for the 1969 model year, as the 302, and the newly introduced 351 were the only small block V-8 engines available in the 1969 Mustang, and, therefore, if a 289 engine in is a 1969 Mustang, it can't be the original engine.

However, the 289 was still available in the Mustang through the 1968 model year. Although for the 1968 model only the 2 barrel "C" code version of the 289 engine was available, as the 4 barrel "A" and "K" code versions of the 289 were not available after the 1967 model year.

Guys I've only owned by SS for several months but prior to buying it I had a 2011 Roush 5XR #30 in my garage. If you dont know what a 5XR is, its a limited # addition to the Stage 3 cars. It was the first super charged 5.0 production tuner car. It was a 6 spd manual and lowly rated at 525hp / 465lbs tq at 7lbs of boost at the flywheel but truthfully more around 540hp. The car was fast but was lacking in areas. For $53k I had base brakes, no sunroof, and the Shaker 500 stereo. I had the full Roush suspension with 3.73 gears, 20" Roush wheels and Cooper RS3 tires, boost gauge, Roush TVS2300, Roush axle back exhaust, Roush gauges, seats and floormats, Roush race peddals, badging and stripes, front facia and rear spoiler.
I bought the car on a whim but I should have known better, it was black with a lot of vinyl red stickers which was a cleaning / waxing nightmare and to top it off Im not a Ford guy AT ALL! I have a hard enough time with my black GN's!
Anyway I sold it to my neighbors brother who is a diehard Mustang guy. Mainly I got rid of the car because of the transmission issues. Though I had a full warranty through Ford / Roush, I couldn't modify the car without voiding it. As you see in my sig Im not worried about warranties UNLESS there is shoddy parts installed. The transmission rebuild was going to be $2,600 if it broke from mods. The new 5.0 also was having issues with piston clatter. On a blown car thats NO BUENO! To top it off Ford issued a TSB advising 5.0 owners not to modify their cars. If you want to read the TSB you can find it at fnsweet.com which is the Roush forums. All vendors except Ray Skillman Ford in Indiana (#1 Roush dealer) pulled their aftermarket FI setups and go fast goodies off the market.

Now to the meat of it, When I bought my SS back in Nov 11, I installed a Maggie with 5.5lbs, Roto-Fab CAI, Edelbrock 1 3/4 shortys, SLP Hushmouth through stock cats, BMR Level 3 suspension and the wheels you see in my sig. Pretty much as close to the Roush 5XR setup as I could. The difference was that I had at 520rwhp / 482rwtq with less boost. Since then more has been done to the SS but as close to apples to apples as I could get and the SS was heads and shoulders over the Stang. I love my Chebby!!

My daughter had a 2010 Roush and got rid of it within a year. She said she was embarassed by the lack of performance. No, it wasn't a 5.0 but for the price it should have been able to beat 4th gen Camaros and it wouldn't. You got a great Chebby, man!

Strange you should say "beating the crap out of it"...I've had at least 30 new cars and never ordered one. I have bought some with 10-20 miles on them realizing someone must have driven them before me and not once had an issue with any new car. I wouldn't think of buying a new car without knowing how it performs and the only way to know that is to drive it as I intend to. Had the very mild performance run I gave this Mustang caused a break-down...guess what, no way would I have purchased it. I've never '"beat the crap" out of any car mine or otherwise and anyone who ever bought or otherwise obtained one of my used cars......got a great car. I guess I'm a spontaneous buyer who, when they decide to buy, want it now...lol. It would be hard for me to understand anyone shopping for a performance car that wouldn't drive it the way I do. When you test drive a new car, you don't punch it to find out it's performance potential?

Understanding your feelings on the issue, I suppose no one would ever buy a used Corvette and yet, they retain one of the highest retail used car prices in the world.
