Diesel Cruze next year might be more attainable for most.

Hmmmm interesting? What diesel are they putting in the cruze? Can you please convince someone at GM to put a small diesel in the colorado/canyon?

I think the Volt is a good choice and their customer satisfaction rating is through the roof.

Screw the over priced volt. I'm buying a new gen Ford Fusion which will get 47 mpg city. That's insane.

Fbodfather informed me there are really good lease deals on the Volt right now. Really good.

I just got a 2012 Cruze 1.4L Turbo, non Eco, with automatic and the RS package. I average 32 commuting 19 miles each way to work and back in rural towns. $21,000 compared to $40,000. Do some math, the Volt is a bad purchase. $19,000 in fuel, even call it $10,000 in fuel after rebates... I'll not consider the added electric cost.... that is $10,000/$4 per gallon = 2,500 gallons. Multiply by 30 mpg around town economy, and you get 75,000 miles of fuel.

The Volt will likely need power cell replacement and other maintenance before then to further offset the advantage of the Cruze.

Oh, and the Cruze looks great. Something you'll NEVER hear about the Volt!

Exactly. And if you are like me and plan to drive my next purchase for 10 years, a regular hybrid makes perfect sense. Paying above $30k "to save gas" doesn't make sense when you do the math.

I love the Volt...but for the cost it doesn't make sense yet to people on a real budget.

For someone looking for new, I'd recommend a small 4 door like the eco cruze or similar.

You may also want to look at the new Ford C-max coming next year I believe which is basically aimed at being a prius killer. Supposed to average 47MPG and is cheaper and more powerful than the Prius.

Otherwise I also agree the diesel cruze will be another great MPG vehicle for sure.

As for you....you can always keep the Camaro and get a cheap used fuel efficent car as well. That is probably the cheapest and most fun solution (cauze you get to keep your beautiful ABM!)

if anyone is interested:

I have 2 neighbors, one with a Leaf and one with a Volt.

both had the electric company (southern california edison out here) install a vehicle specific meter on their homes, this keeps the cost of charging locked at the teir 1 price of $0.13/KWh where homes can jump tiers as usage goes up, from $0.13 to $1.39 /KWh (again this is Socal).

Both guys drive <10 miles one way to work, so not more than 20 miles a day, and they full charge every night, I've seen the vehicle only charge electric bill and they are both around $25/ month for roughly 500 miles a month..

The volt owner made a comment a few weeks ago that he still has the original gas in the car that the dealer put in when he bought it 7 months ago, he was trying to figure out a way to get it out of the car for his lawn mower....

----

Now on a side note, my wife has owned a Camry Hybrid (ducks) since 2007 and gets >51 mpg in it because she only drives city streets, and keeps it under 40mph which for the most part keeps it in electric mode, she gets about 750 - 900 miles out of a tank (18 gal) and fills up once a month for $50ish..

I have a honda civic hybrid for $20k out the door I get 45mpg but super slow. I need to think twice before I pull out in front of someone. Lol saves me tons of $$ for modding my camaro.

I just saw that GM has once again halted Volt production due to low volume of sales. Maybe you can get a good deal?
