Just a heads up... I have been hearing that some insuarnce companies are really pushing for people to get their safety recalls fixed as it could affect any "claim" that were to be made from a crash.

Not sure if that is true, or legally possible, just passing on info. I was not given the option on the key for my SS, but since the wife drives it too, I am ok with the recall and the keys. I liked the original style, but hey, I like the car better than the key anyway.

I guess I missed the build up to this.
what was the issue with the old style switchblade key that caused so many problems?

I have only ever had the separate key and fob and my knee hits or rubs the fob whenever I drive the ZL1, since it hangs down.

If you're 7'8" tall and sit 3" from the steering wheel, your knee might hit the switchblade fob, potentially turning off the ignition, disabling the airbag in a crash, causing your ribcage to be crushed by the steering wheel, which would happen anyway from sitting too close to it. Just a knee-jerk (pun intended) reaction by GM because of the other ignition switch fails. My Equinox uses the same type of fob, with the switch in basically the same position, and I haven't seen a single thing about a recall for that.

You don't have to do what the dealer tells you. Once you bought the car, it became yours... not theirs.

No, it makes your key pretty darn rare.

My 2015 is supposed to have the fob and key separate . Thats what then dealer showed me on a 15 they had sitting there.

I like the flip but don't think I'LL have a choice.

Thanks for this. That was one of the funniest things I've read in a while.

BTW, I'm opting to keep my original keys...
