The 6.2 is a beats of a motor, but the 1500 is maxed out in other areas at those extreme weights. Edit to say. The 6.2 also requires premium fuel, or it runs all retarded. |

Is a 2500 a better tow vehicle? Yes. Is it worth buying a 2500 versus a 1500? For the general consumer, almost always no. The additional expense of the larger truck is far more than what you would spend in extra gas or even paying to have those large loads transported for you based on the very low amount of miles most people tow for compared to when they don't tow. I've been looking to replace my truck with a new one and won't even bother going to the dealerships because no one is stocking the 6.2L motor-based trucks around here and I'm not interested in placing an order and waiting. |

Had a buddy looking at 2500 GM 6.6 gas. He built a 1500 and a 2500 Silverado online and interesting enough the 2500 gas truck with what he wanted was cheaper than the 1500 he was looking at. He built an LT which I believe is the middle trim for the HDs.

For towing I would go 2500HD custom with a 6.6 L8T. You can get them new for around 50k.

HD Gas engines like the 6.6 don't need to meet certain standards that 1500 trucks do. Which is why the Fuel economy ratings on 2500 trucks say NA for city and hwy mpgs on the window sticker. So they do not have DFM or start stop which in turn makes them more reliable. |

If you don't mind the cost of diesel, go for the duramax.
This is how I present the comparison for folks shopping the 5.3L vs the 3.0L. If you're buying a duramax thinking that you'll save money, remember that diesel is almost $2 more per gallon than regular unleaded. You might not be saving any money at all. You'll get better highway fuel economy and you'll have more torque for towing but the added cost of fuel might be a wash or end up costing more in the long run. If you're shopping the 6.2L vs the 3.0L, get the 3.0L because premium unleaded is closer to diesel in cost per gallon and the fuel economy difference will make the 3.0L come out ahead in the long run. If the 3.0L was available in the ZR2, I would have bought it over the 6.2L. I will also add that the 3.0L is overall more reliable than either of the V8s. That said, I think the best overall powertrain that GM has right now in terms power, fuel economy and reliability is the 2.7L HO. |

I have the 22 Refreshed RST Rally Sport Edition. 5.3L. Wanted something a bit sporty with out that lowered lookl.
Zero Problems towing a 22Ft boat. Only mods are ditching the stock tires (22's on the RS) and grabbed some hybrid ridge grapplers and leveled the front end. Highly disappointed in the leather quality and would love to choke out the engineer who decided to put the spedo on the left side. What an idiot. Hopefully a future software update allows you to flip it. As for gas mileage im lucky to get 16 around town and 20 on the highway. I've been getting more like 13 / 17 but nothing beats the storage and capability of a truck for daily life. |

Can you imagine buying a $75k ZR2 or Denali and having the engine blow up at less than 8k miles and then having to wait up to a year for a replacement? It sucks and it's a reality for a lot of owners right now. The first ZR2 we sold 8 months ago is sitting out back with a blown engine at 7k miles right now. No idea when GM can get a replacement either. I've seen enough of them here that it's definitely on my mind with my truck. |
