LOL man, I hope not!!! Otherwise I have serious problems. =)

I'm going to figure this out one way or another. I have a reply from the GM Support Rep with a couple things to try, so I'm going to give that a go and I'll report back.

I can't recall ever having the lines show up on my backup camera but I too am interested. It would give us a bit more depth and help judge how far away an object is.
I had the dealer set up the onstar so it may very well have been there before that...

I originally had both OnStar and XM radio, but NEVER had any grid lines on my 14-1LE
All it had was the beeping sensor and triangle/explanation mark when you're coming close to an obstacle.

From the owners manual see Symbols and Guidelines

Rear Vision Camera (RVC)
Warning: The RVC system does not display children, pedestrians, bicyclists, crossing traffic, animals, or any other object located outside the camera's field of view, below the bumper, or under the vehicle. Perceived distances may be different from actual distances. Do not back the vehicle using only the RVC screen. Failure to use proper care before backing may result in injury, death, or vehicle damage. Always check behind and around the vehicle before backing.

If equipped, the RVC system is designed to help the driver when backing up by displaying a view of the area behind the vehicle. When the key is in ON/RUN and the driver shifts the vehicle into R (Reverse), the video image automatically appears on the infotainment screen. The infotainment screen goes to the previous screen after approximately four seconds once the vehicle is shifted out of R (Reverse).
To see the previous screen sooner, do one of the following:

  • Press a hard key on the infotainment system.
  • Shift into P (Park).
  • Reach a vehicle speed of 8 km/h (5 mph).

Symbols and Guidelines The RVC system may have a feature that lets the driver view symbols on the infotainment screen while using the RVC. The Ultrasonic Rear Park Assist (URPA) system must not be disabled to use the caution symbols. The error message Rear Parking Assist Symbols Unavailable may display if URPA has been disabled and the symbols have been turned on. See Ultrasonic Parking Assist.
The symbols appear and may cover an object when viewing the infotainment screen when an object is detected by the URPA system.
The RVC system may also have a guideline overlay that can help the driver align the vehicle when backing into a parking spot.
To turn the symbols or guidelines on or off:

  1. Shift into P (Park).
  2. Press the CONFIG button.
  3. Select Rear Camera Options.
  4. Select Symbols or Guidelines. The feature is on when a check mark appears next to it.
Rear Vision Camera Error Messages
SERVICE REAR VISION CAMERA SYSTEM This message can display on the infotainment screen when the system is not working properly.
If any other problem occurs or if a problem persists, see your dealer.
Rear Vision Camera Location

The camera is above the license plate.
The area displayed by the camera is limited. It does not display objects that are close to either corner or under the bumper and can vary depending on vehicle orientation or road conditions. Displayed images may be further or closer than they appear.
The following illustrations show the field of view that the camera provides.

  1. View displayed by the camera.

  1. View displayed by the camera.
  2. Corner of the rear bumper.
When the System Does Not Seem to Work Properly The RVC system may not work properly or display a clear image if:
  • It is dark.
  • The sun or the beam of headlamps are shining directly into the camera lens.
  • Ice, snow, mud, or anything else builds up on the camera lens. Clean the lens, rinse it with water, and wipe it with a soft cloth.
  • The back of the vehicle is in an accident. The position and mounting angle of the camera can change or the camera can be affected. Be sure to have the camera and its position and mounting angle checked at your dealer.

I just checked mine, and it wasn't as mentioned above. I first had to go to 'Display Settings', then RVC settings. Sadly the 'Symbols' box was already checked and I have NEVER had grid lines. Back to square one I guess.

Backup Camera Grid Lines gone after OnStar/XM setup

I would try deselecting then selecting and see if that works. If not go see your friendly Chevrolet dealer.

I had the gridline option before OnStar setup...now...not there.

I remember seeing it before. My guess is that they silently pushed an update. Grrrr

Hm...I never saw the gridline option...looked for it, and thought it should be there, but it was never an option. I guess I didn't check before OnStar setup.
