Oh, a word about GM and discontinued parts- there is no "master list" of discontinued parts. And even if there were, that list couldn't be updated fast enough to keep up. They drop parts CONSTANTLY and without regard to notifications to dealerships all the time. Dealership orders it, and GMSPO will let them know. It's faster now since computerized systems and tech have improved, but trust me, one minute the part is available, the next it's gone.

This is exactly how YearOne got started. Manufacturers were selling of truckloads of their NOS parts, someone recognized the value and started a company based on it. Then they started making parts themselves. There will be demand for replacement parts from the aftermarket and they will respond, but right now we are where the muscle car guys were in the 80s, not enough aftermarket replacement parts and OEM parts disappearing. I'm not sure what kind of support we will ever get on some of the electronic items and apparently it is impossible to build axles capable of 500+whp for under 2k.

Most of our cars are atleast 10 years old. Some are close. Some of the parts disparity is because of the number of accidents that we have in todays world. Some of it is also because if they keep making parts to keep your old car alive, then you won't go and buy a new car. The aftermarket will come up alot of new parts when these cars are a bit older, and demand for parts is higher. It's all about profit. For example Hawks motorsports is constantly making new aftermarket parts for thirdgens, but that is because the demand is really high as that is one of the new "hotrod" "ls swap" cars.

It is likely that plastic parts will have to be 3D printed.

I've warned those over on Camaro6 what's coming a few times over the past few years. Most over there seem to think it's all good and it's a non issue for that group lol. Many use the B.S..10 year federal law for parts excuse. I'm just gonna sit back, wait and enjoy watching the show when it starts. It's coming for them as well in the near future....facts

Honestly I have heavily debated with selling my 5th gen to get back into an ls swapped Thirdgen. I do really like the creature comforts of the 5th gen though. I also feel like for the regular enthusiast such as myself, things are more intimidating with the 5th gen compared to an older car. I am a thirdgen fanatic though, to me nothing compares.

so it sounds like it’s a GM thing really, like i mentioned the SS sedan, limited production as it is already, it’s impossible to get anything for those cars
so just GM dropping the ball entirely and making these things disposable |

The 10 year "rule" was more of a guideline. When GM had a larger market share and was flush with cash, storing parts wasn't that big of an issue. Everything was/is a business decision. In reality, they've long moved to the point of more like 5 years thereabouts. With the only REAL parts continuing to be made are ones that fit later models, and also ones that are still required for any lingering warranty stuff (like the ZL1 blowers still needed to be available for the snout spring issue that they warranted as well as the cat converter deal). But even those are over now so once they're gone, they're gone.

Then you're going to have to turn over more rocks. Becomes infinitely harder as time goes by.

I don't think Mary Barra sees muscle car enthusiasts as a GM market anymore, but given the publics reluctance to purchase EVs, that vision does not bode well for GM. Meanwhile, OSW is loaded with Hellcats. I've never seen so many street cars running in the 10s.
