People like to say no one buys sedans yet the most popular car I see around me are camrys, civics, and accords. Theyve been trailing the competition for many years. The margins are there on the Cadillac side of the house to continue selling sedans but not Chevy. Its a shame because I do prefer sedans.

GM apologists will soon be here to quote the corporation's annual profits hovering around $14-18B for a decade, which, according to them, justifies everything.

I drove an Impala rental from West Virginia to Arizona to pickup a Tremec 3060 for my Gen6 stranded in Kentucky. Very comfortable car.

My criticism of the model began with the 2017 redesign which resulted in a car that looked like every other mid-sized car on the planet. |

My wife was quite sad after I told her the Malibu has be canceled. She currently drives a 2017 Malibu Premier. The 2017 Premier came equipped with the 2.0 liter turbo LTG engine (hmm, what other car comes with this engine?) and a 9-speed transmission. It weighs ~3,300 lbs. The car has been reliable, comfortable to drive, and handles well due to the light weight. Fun fact: It is both faster 0-60 and 1/4 mile than my old 1988 Trans Am WS6 5.7L. I have caught many people driving much more expensive cars by surprise at the stop light while driving it. It will spin the front wheels in 1st and 2nd gear from a stop. You actually have to pedal it a bit to maintain traction before going full throttle.

Malib and Impala were decent cars. But note Hyundai/Kia, Toyota and Honda all still have 2 sedans in their line ups. Only Cadillac now has sedans and GM as a whole has 3 cars. They did this to themselves over the years. Toyota and Honda maintained on reliability and resale. Hyundai/Kia not so much but GM made “pretty good” cars. Just not great ones (Camaro being the exception here as it was truly great but didn’t sell for other reasons). I really liked my LaCrosse. Very solid car. Still make it in China. And Buick just showed some very slick sedans…….in China. I was there when GM was forced to cost cut on everything and I was here when they made dumb product decisions to differentiate the brands. Go back to 5e LaCrosse. LWB Epsilon, Mailibu was SWB Epsilon. Impala? Base suspension only. Buick? Linked H-arm/hyper strut suspension optional. Cadillac XTS? Standard. That uplevel suspension could have worked to make the Impala and it would have even worked on the Malibu but nope. How about the TT V6 in the XTS? Would have fit in the Impala. Or better yet have about an AWD 400 HP Regal? All the parts were there for some compelling cars. But in the end they weren’t spectacular and if you weren’t brand loyal you bought a Honda or Toyota, both of which have launched an all new Accord and Camry in the last year. Both hybrids and pretty great cars. Sad.

Not a big deal to me. IMO, the last Malibu rolled off the assembly line in 1977. From then on they were hideous. But that's me.....

I’m trying to summarize but there is obviously a ton more to the story. If I ever run a business. I obviously will not follow the big business, corporate stockholder model. It’s toxic, terrible, and bad for the customer. Something about something some big finance guy said in the 80s about how public traded companies are to be ran with one goal in mind- stockholder value- and just throw everything else down the toilet. Surprisingly he showed it worked. In my opinion it doesn’t work the best but at some companies… it works all too well.
