Are we positive it has a supercharger under the hood? Could this be going for a new Z28 to compete with the Boss?

There will always be something better coming out. I'm sure the 2014 will be even better, and then the 2015 will be better than that. But why buy a 2015 when an all new model is coming out for 2016.

I was just thinking, Isn't it a little late in the game to be testing power upgrades this close to launch? maybe these are stage packages being tested for future release? or maybe this is a whole new car in itself (Z/28)? but to me it wouldn't seem right to let people know about a Z/28 before ZL1's are on the lots! that would hurt ZL1 sales don't you think?

Here are some tire photographs I'm drooling over. The first is the F1 G:2 we already know is coming on ZL1. The second is the Sport Cup tire found on ZR1. It's not a very clear picture, but either the shoulder's pretty bald or I think it's a strong suggestion they might be getting some seriously sticky tires!
I'm sort of confused about where the intake vent goes - directly to the air intake for the SC maybe? Not sure how the routing would work. Maybe it is just a Ram Air / CAI of sorts. I imagine a tunnel in the hood or below the hood to route the air to the intake.

I think this design would still produce downforce given the above assumptions - the downforce comes from release of pressure from under the car so I don’t think this would change that too much. Man this is exciting.

Could be just me but when I zoom in on the tires they seem like the standard tread you show in the pictures. Maybe a photoshop expert could enhance the lighting to help us see the tread better?

Actually, this prototype has been in an accident. If you look closely, you can see that the entire panel right behind the passenger's door is dented. I think the black tape may just be part of the temporary patch job.

You are correct, but I can wait 6 months for the 2013 and see if this package comes to light (assuming it isn’t on the ’12). If there isn’t news of it then, I’ll pull the trigger. People will wait years for the supposed Z28 which may not come back for 5+ years if then, so 6 more months doesn’t seem that bad for something we already have pictures of. To me, once the ZL1 was announced, the hope for a 5th gen Z28 went way down. (That is, unless this is it.)

Anything else you guys/gals want me to ask GM for? I am getting those HOOD PINS. They DO IMPLY MUSCLE - even if it is kind of retro.. it IS A NEcESSARY FEATURE for SERIOUS CONTENDERS on the track! Take it to the bank!

Looks like modified rear brake intakes to me.. a bit more BULGY and "scoopish" to me. And, possibly the ENTIRE hood will be Carbon Fiber and "lift off" only to save weight (no hardware)... Yes it could be ZL1 on a diet (with another revered name) with a naturally aspirated engine therefore needing more natural air intakes. Or could be the ZL1 "Package 2". My hope is that it is ZL1 Package 1 and all that stuff comes as entry level ZL1. No mods required! Thanks GM!

If I were a betting man I'd say it's a Z28.

I'd agree, but if you zoom in you can clearly see a wire going to the area. That seems to indicate data acquisition for testing purposes - perhaps tire temperature?

I'm all for this being the ZL1 Package 1 plan!!
