Very few differences safety wise. It's the cost not the test. They look at claims data. Data is mined and sold to underwriters. It could also just be a data entry error / human error.
I think Vash is onto something, because this doesn't hold true with all quotes. Geico and Progressive seem to have it right, and so did Allstate on their website, but when I go through my agent directly, quotes are wacky. Not sure I should trust the human involved!

Anyone else getting quotes for the V8 coming in lower than the V6? Anyone else even considering one or the other?
That's what my ALLSTATE rep told me too.

My allstate agent told me that it has something to do with the safety features like the brembo brakes.

Uh.... NO! My agent (State Farm - been with them for 35 years, BTW) quoted me $40.00 per month MORE for the 2SS than the 2LT. So that comes out to $240 MORE per 6 months premium.

You sure they didn't get your #'s backwards? That doesn't make any sense.

Sounds like they may be banking the 2SS on the same sort of scale as the corvette - older, more mature drivers on average than those of the V6 or a 1SS.

But other than that theory, I have no clue.

I recently did an online Allstate quote and the 2SS was about $70.00 per month more than the 2LT.

A month ago when we had our Allstate agent add our Camaro they had in their system two Camaro models - either "SS" or "RS".
Apparently they still don't have things coded correctly for their agent's system. (And why the agents have different rates than on-line is weird...)

I deal with Allstate and for the SS its 135.00 and for the LT 161.50 now that's here in Utah but I really think that is crazy because the SS is a bigger engine and faster ... Are they kidding me lol. Oh well still getting my car ...

It's not the car. The car means nothing to them. It's all about data pharming and formulas. Numbers Game.

They could give a hoot less about the actual car specs nowdays. They lean on KITT to tell them what to charge.

my guess would have to be. that the difference is there because of their price brackets.

I got a quote on a new 2009 Corvette 3LT... it was 160 per 6 cheaper then my 2008 Subaru...

The price of the SS camaro puts it into the "older driver" category.

Those of you getting quotes would need to look over the quoted coverages and the cost of each coverage. The reason is that, for example, Allstate uses what they call PGS codes to factor a rate for the car. The PGS codes are A-Z of the alphabet. (A) being the more costly car too drive. The PGS codes contain the history of the car from a claims perspective, frequency of incidents, repair costs and more. The vin will sometimes contain safety features that are discounted on the quote or policy. That is why it is prudent to get a quote with your vin. So if you have a vehicle like the Mustang that has predominately young drivers then that will skew the history toward that type of driver, does this make sense?
The costs to insure a car will mostly show up in the physical damage coverages such as collision and comprehensive. So compare those to your previous or current vehicle. The costs for the driver mostly show up in the liability coverages such as the per person limit and total limit per an occurance for bodily injury and then the property damage limit. This is called split limit liability and would look like this 100/300/50 (in thousands). 100 per person bi/300 per occurance bi and 50 for property damage to others property. Not all states present auto insurance this way but many do. Some have a single limit of liability for bi and pd. Also, it is very possible that insurers will guess at the PGS for the Camaro or begin a baseline that is similar to the Fbody history. They could also make mistakes or bad guesstimates only to correct those at your next renewal . After a year of this new Camaro on the road they will probably get it (PGS)dialed in so to speak. Maybe this info will help. Check some of my other posts on insurance for more detailed information about auto insurance. I realize that it can be very confusing and I have been in the business a long time and still don't know everything.

Insured my last week through All state. Took my 2006 H2 off since I traded it for my 2SS IOM and it dropped from $680 every 6 months to $585 every 6 months. So getting better deal all around! Went from 10 miles a gallon to 24 miles per gallon & dropped insurance almost $100 every 6 months. All State said it went down cause they give 20% New car discount for 1st year then goes to 10% new car discount in 2nd year. So between money saved on gas & insurance then throw in all the people just bragging about how much they love the car! That all makes having this camaro Priceless! Almost feels like I'm making a comercial!!!
