Man even in the early 80's, that was a very rare and highly valued car!

Thats a bit awesome!

A bit staged due to the low Corvette towing capacity, but awesome!

Wow.
Yes, its a real 440 Superbird... the owner was a quadriplegic, and really loved the Superbirds. So he had this one modified so he could easily ride in the car on his frequent road trips. The center section of the rear bumper was hinged and would pivot down, and then a ramp would be extended out to allow his driver to wheel him in or out of the Superbird. Notice that the front of the enclosure has viewing windows so Rich could enjoy the view/ride...

I have heard rumors that the Superbird has been restored to original stock condition, but do not know for sure.

You know that boat was unhitched/pulled away from that Vette after the pic was shot. What would the towing capacity on a Vette work out to be? Maybe 1K lbs?

The LS7 is clearly up to the task with the power it puts out. The weak link is the Corvette itself. I'd say 1K is on the upper limit, I wouldnt feel safe going past 600lbs on it.

Nothing at all to do with the engine, I would think that this frame couldn't take a whole lot of tongue weight.

You'd be surprised how many old muscle car's I see with full on trailer hitches. My best friend has a 69 Camaro with a big burly trailer hitch hanging of the back of it.

Its a 70's thing. and why not if it works.

Yep, my 1968 Hemi Charger R/T had one when I bought the car in 1977...
