Drifting is awesome, and yes it is a sport and I doubt it is easy to do. You have to see it in person to truly respect it.

Everyone has their opinion and we do respect it.

I agree. If you have ever seen drifting up close or been on a road course or blocked off streets, good drifters are excellent drivers that really know the limits of their cars. Good driving schools teach on skidpads - you learn the physical limitations of yourself and your vehicle. Anyway, that is just my opinion.

Why don't you go try it? I doubt you would because you know you likely would land your car in a ditch by LOSS of control, these guys control cars sideways, it's basically an elite form of driving and takes a lot more practice and talent then driving on a huge circle track.

Not racing? Wouldn't it be racing if you're going from Point A to Point B, and whom ever gets there in the least amount to time be considered a race?

Dang then, what have I been watching and doing at the drag strip....

Those photos are great!!! Thanks for sharing, and the Camaro is doing a great job representing all forms of racing right now.

Let me just say as the first an only American builder and crew cheif of the only American car to ever win the D1 Grand Prix in 2005 AND 2007, drifting is one of the hardest forms of motorsports ever invented for factory based chassis cars!

We have invited all forms of other motorsport drivers out who also claim "this isn't a sport" and ask them to compete at events like the Kasey Kahne Foundation Drift vs Grip at Irwindale Speedway. Other drivers from Indy, Kart, NASCAR, CORR, and others have all come to try it.

They all leave with a new found respect for what we do and how it is done. The drivers have total control of ~3000lb cars sliding at over 100mph within inches of each other at all times. Being able to slide your cars rear end within 3 feet from an outside judgning point, then transitioning the front end within 3 feet from an inside judging point, all while another car is right next to you doing close to 80-100mph depending on the track takes an incredible amount of talent.

This sport and these drivers take a lot of crap for it but I would literally challange ANYONE who thinks this isn't a sport to come on down to the next local event to truly see the pros in person and then be able to say that again. Drifting is like watching the last lap of the closest race you've ever seen over and over again! All this and some of the hardest driving on a car you can possibly do. Banging the rev limiters, destroying clutches, gear sets, rear ends, tires, and body banels. Plus the factory umbrella girls don't hurt either.

Drifting OWNS.

i thought drifting was judged rather than who crosses the line first. if thats the case i dont like the judging aspect of it, but its a nice show to watch.

I don't believe anyone called it racing, as it's not. As stated it is a sport and a competition. Driver's earn points for how sideways they can get without losing control. how close they can get to the walls while in a drift without touching, and many other factors along the course as well.

Some of these tracks allow the drivers to go into the first turn at over 80 mph while putting it into a controlled slide. Tell me, when was the last time your car was completely sideways at over 80 mph and you were able to control it?

Love the Hankook Camaro and hope it keeps representing out there for drifting!

Thanks for the input.

IMO if drifting had been "invented" in the US, everyone would be doing it. Many are bitter because it originated on the streets of the Far East...

It takes DRIVING SKILL to be a good drifter and that skill carries over to other driving disciplines. Drifters are considered some of the safest drivers out there because they continually practice controlling something that is out of control.

'nuff said.

Hahaha, I hear ya. I said the same team when my team asked if I wanted to go. I said I'll go but I'm sleeping in the room with A/C all day, I'm not going to the actual Formula D event! Aren't they doing it at night though this year?

Haha, well as I'm sponsored by Falken I can't condone that comment But I am looking forward to what you guys will be bringing out!
