Which begs the question, is the new Camaro even a Pony car if some only think of the 60's muscle wars deserve that name.
the Corvettes (especially in later years) have been on par with & surpassing similarly designed exotic vehicles. still, most people don't consider the Vette an exotic car because it's produced in large quantities, it's not made with as many rare materials, the interior ain't as refined, & it's priced far below its competitors. the list can go on. my point - just because it performs like cars in another class doesn't mean it's considered one of them. i just have a really hard time giving that classification to a Korean car with no history related to that of the American pony cars (other than basic driveline layout).

Just get them to DRIVE a 2008 or newer Corvette, she's exotic alright.

No. Never will be. never can be. never should be.

It dont fit the part. It has to look the part. looks more like a G37S than a pony car.

I receiced a flyer in the mail on this car yesterday and it states the V6 starts at $33k and is suppose to compete with Lexus and BMW. Also here a couple of pics I shot at the car show of it last week.:

So I take it that is the cloth option. The interior looks very nice.. However the exterior looks not so nice.. I like the look of the new Z over this and that isn't saying much since I don't like the looks of the new Z.

33k base for the V6 eh? Yeah I knew it was going to cost over 30k for the V6...

I'd get the turbo 4 personally....

I can see why they are calling the Hyundai Genesis a pony car. RWD 2+2 V6 engine.... It's sporty. But to call it a "pony car" .... Don't know if I would go that far. Maybe if it were to get a V8 option I'd say why not. But the label "Pony car" was started with the creation of the "Ford Mustang" .... hence "Pony" which I don't need to explain to a bunch of Camaro enthusiasts... and cars that competed with the Mustang such as the Chevy Camaro have also been labeled with that title... Although personally whenever I think "pony car" I associate with a negative connotation because I think of the Mustang...

But back on topic. I don't believe that back when the Nissan 240SX was around they weren't calling it a pony car even though it was a 2dr 2+2 seater vehicle... I'd actually associate the Hyundai Genesis in the same class as the 240 personally.

But look at all the 2dr V6 (and some V8's for that matter) RWD 2+2 seater coupes that are out right now for under 33k and you get the following

1.) V6 Mustang & GT
2.) V6 Challenger & R/T
3.) V6 Camaro & SS
4.) Hyundai Genesis Coupe V6

So for the price I'll take a Camaro SS out of all of the following...

Anyways I'm happy to see the arrival of the Hyundai Genesis Coupe however, and with news of Toyota coming back in the game with joint venture with Subie coming out with a RWD/AWD sports coupe, and Nissan reportedly rumored to come out with a 240SX replacement, maybe in a few years it'll be good times once again for affordable RWD 2dr coupes that have been absent for so long in our market...

^Well put. The Genesis has managed to sneak onto that list. Hyundai might be thinking that they can steal customers who want muscle-type specs but without the muscle packaging. Hey I get it, this car looks like an Acura RSX and doesn't have a v8. But silently I think its competing with Camaro and Mustang. BMW and Lexus...not so much.
