All deposits should be refundable. Most laws support you on this one. Just tell the dealer you cannot go through with it, and as long as the car has not been delivered the money should be refunded. Non refundable ussually means after the car is delivered you must take possession, because the goods were built for you in mind. At this point you are opting to back out and the dealership should not be liable.
Until the car is manufactured, the deposit is refundable by most legal wording. It is worth doing for 2k.

First of all, congratulations on getting a new Camaro. I hope you enjoy it as much as the rest of us anticipate that we will enjoy ours.
Now, a little math -- You put down a $2000.00 deposit to pay $4000.00 over MSRP, correct? If you bail on this dealer now, and assume the worst case that you don't get your deposit back, you are still ahead of the game by $2000.00 plux tax when you use a dealer that will sell for MSRP. I looks like you can only better your position by ditching this guy and going with a dealer with a little more integrity. I would still fight like an SOB for my 2 grand because I think the law will back you. BTW -- if you don't mind, can you please post the name of this dealer. |

Reasons 1. They - the dealer - arent getting any cars for their stock - Camaro is Sold sales only "DEALER CANNOT ORDER ANY FOR INVENTORY" (not right now) - the only inventory they will get out of the gate are the ones the buyer don't take delivery on. 2. The comment about only getting 20 v'6s is false - see 1 above. They aren't getting anything the consumer is. 3. Even if the car comes in some dealers have said deposit is refundable if you don't take delivery - why - see 1 above - they just got a car for inventory. 4. I would order what you want from someone who will go MSRP or less and get it in writing. There are dealers out there and threads in this website with their names. GL - Help the rest of us - don't agree to pay over MSRP

Well BigTrap, look at it this way -- even if you end up taking your whooping, you can can still feel good that you will be driving the hands-down hottest car on the road next year.
I have always admired the Corvette for what it is, but in my opinion, these new muscle cars are more head turners than the vette. I can honestly say that when I see another vette on the road -- pfft -- another vette. When I see a Challenger on the road, it looks verrry different from all the other wedge-shaped cars and it instantly catches my attention. I can only imagine what it will be like to see a Camaro on these roads. |

BTW bigtrap - great color choice, and set up on the car - her sister will live in MI and have black custom Ralleys - went with Custom because I want the ralley stripes like the concept extending onto the front fascia. I also just modified my order to get the RS with polished wheels Again - GL on your purchase

If they refuse to give you back the deposit take them to court and contact the Attorney General of your state, there is no such thing as a non refundable deposit. Consumer laws state that until you sign the final paperwork and drive off the lot with the car the money is 100% yours. Even after the car has been made and has been delivered, legally the money is still yous as now the dealer has a car to sell to someone else.
