Well, there are a couple of issues here. One, there are slimy dealers out there that will do things like this. Two, the details about the allotments were put out there then retracted. So no one (well, maybe some in GM) really knows how many cars each dealer is really going to get between the start of production and 3Q. Third, if you read the ordering FAQs, it clearly states and even placing a pre-order doesn't mean you get a car. You could have an order number at this point and not get a car (unlikely, but nothing that prevents that from happening). Like I said above somewhere, there are just too many unknowns at this point.

Having said that, the last confirmed number was that 7800 pre-orders were placed. Since those are sold units, you would think (and hope) that GM would produce those units first and get them out into our hands. They mean immediate money for the dealers too, which should be a positive if they are currently stuggling.

So, what if there are dealers out there with an allocation of say 10 cars and 30 guys come in to "order". The clever dealer says "Better hurry, I only have one left!" to all 30 guys, and all 30 guys plunk down a $1000 deposit to get "the last one".

It SOUNDS like we have a situation where 20 guys were duped into placing a deposit on a car that was entered into the order system BEYOND the dealers allocation, and they were told they were actually one of the allocated cars. When the cars DON'T get pulled for build because they were not allocated, the 20 guys each get told some long winded story about SS or leather or Wheels or some option being on "Constraint" and it might take a while to get the order built.

In theory, some seedy dealer could be raking in deposits for Camaros which they cannot possibly fullfil, leaving buyers in limbo until the order is eventually built... and out of a depost all the while.

What proof can a customer get that his order was actually within the dealer's allocatiion?!?!?!
I'm sure that could have happened at some dealerships, but my dealership had an initial allotment of 67 cars and last time I talked to my salesman he said they had 100 sold cars. They can submit more sold orders than they have allotment for. it was also said that there will be a second allotment given out sometime in the first quarter 2009.

I sent them TOO MANY people

I say divide up all the Camaro's...

1/3 to my dealership... 1/3 to Lynn, and 1/3 to Classic.

It wouldn't be much easier than that! :flag2:

I wish the GM would just starting building them the in January. I mean they are already building them just start resale production 1 month earlier. Face it the more Camaros people see the more they will want to buy one. Besides GM needs cash now. Each day they wait is hurting them, unless the are losing money on each car they make.

Either you not in a hurry or your hoping GM's estimate is low and maybe you'll see something 3rd qtr.
I think Tomservo got it, but I didnt make myself clear....The dealership is getting 9, I ordered the 2nd car of the 9 they are getting. I should be seeing my car hopefully very soon, when they first become available. The first order was someone who works in the office.....and I imagine that 3rd it Tom

Go outside of 100 miles. I ordered my car from a dealer 160 miles away. Where there's a will, there's a way

I say GM Forget Allotments and send to dealers with sold cars.

I agree with this...This would mean more Camaro's on the road, more advertising... Having camaro's sitting on car dealerships doesn't do nearly as much as having many being driven on the road..

Actually I'm this dealers number one. I had him put my name on the Camaro list the same day I orderd my 2006 Corvette - that was in Jan 06. I actually forgot about it until he called me in early Oct announcing Pre-Orders were being accepted and and production due in Feb 09.

Well...

If dealers are promising and selling at MSRP....

and they have more sold orders than the dealers selling over MSRP (who have more allocated to them which have not yet been ordered), then those dealers that have more sold orders needs to get those cars. GM needs to sell the cars. Hold up....

GM makes the cars. The dealers buy them from GM, right?...In other words, when they hit dealers lots, GM has already gotten paid for the vehicle. Because if that's the case, then no...I don't think dealers with more sold orders should get other dealers cars. I think they should get a higher allocation on the next go around. But, I don't think they should get other dealers cars.

...mmm...wonder if this makes any sense....maybe I confused myself.

Just give it some time. Once they start filling the pipeline, you're going to be tripping over all the camaros sitting at the dealerships with today's econcomic crunch. That's when I plan to get mine and at that point, you might even be able to talk them down on the price quite a bit. But I do realize that it's hard to ward off the compulsive impulse to buy one of these babies since we've been waiting so long...

Yeah I am pushing because my lease is up on my Accord on April 15th. I would much rather turn in my Accord owing nothing versus having to buy it then take the hit trading it in on the Camaro.

They is why I am pushing.

No thanks. I had to go 600 miles to find a dealer with openings in the initial allocation who would sell at MSRP.
