![]() Side note, I think this is a terrible idea, primarily for all of the reasons already listed. Just think.. person talking on the phone, or texting, not paying attention and doing 90mph. |

Dumb. just go 90 and risk it. Plus I am betting 90 is only 15 mph over the limit on most Neveda roads that this would be the case. I mean, its not like you are going to have a pass to go 90 down the strip. It is going to be in the desert roads where there are no cars, no turns, no cops, nothing. Just go 90 and save the 25 bucks, I am sure most people are.

Drunk Driving
Doug Stanhope says something about how you should be able to test out drunk and get a provision on your license that says your able to drive at whatever you test at.
Personally, I think you should have to get your car inspected, and the speed limits are put on not only what your car is capable of safely doing but the ability of the driver as well. In an SUV, and couldn't drive for crap? 40, and in the slow lane. In a vette, or a Lotus or some other car that drives on rails? 90mph if the driver can pass the ability tests. I'm sick of the fact that we have to have a simple law, when there's a great variety of vehicles, many of which aren't even capable of highway speeds, and some that aren't safe at highway speeds. And of course according to Nadar: Some which are unsafe at any speed. (I HAD to!)

With the idea I stated above; if a licensed speeder were caught doing that kind of stuff, a ticket could be applied mathematically to his license, thereby decreasing his privilege. IE: Get caught not paying attention for some reason? Well then, you get to drive -10mph for the next 6 months. Then again, there'd be so many people in this country driving 20mph or less. The biggest problem though is that's all a scam too. The whole phone vs handsfree issue, totally junk science. There've been numerous studies that suggest it's the *act* of talking on the phone, *handsfree or not* that causes the lack of attention to the task of driving. In other words, it's not HOW you talk on the phone but THAT you're talking on the phone at all. It's been suggested that it's because, when your talking to someone in the car, they're aware of the situation and can also sense danger and will actually increase your awareness of the situation at hand. The fact they're not there and can't see anything; They continue to yammer away as a dangerous situation approaches, competing for your attention rather than aiding it. I further this, by saying, (although I won't) Yapping on the phone on a highway with even minor stop and go conditions isn't all that dangerous. However, without a doubt, surface roads, and parking really are. My god, I've watched someone parallel park with a phone held up to their head. If there's a situation which calls for some extra attention, it's that. If there's a situation where you can kill someone, it's then. Meh, I digress |

The trouble with things like this is that it suggests that people who are rich are above the law... and just because you've got loads of cash doesn't mean you can handle a car any better www.wreckedexotics.com
Plus if this got put in to place... how many of the permit buyers do you think would stick to 90mph.... i could see it creeping to 95....100...105mph. I think the main problem with speeding now is that the emphasis has changed from stopping people speeding to catching people speeding.... i guess stopping people speeding doesn't make financial sense!!! |

Just take a trip to Montana, they rarely bother you if you are under 100 and a recent ticket I got for doing 90 in a 75 was a $40 dollar fine paid to the officer on the side of the road at the time of infraction. He told me it takes 3 such tickets to equal 1 point on up there. Hoping it does not hit my Ca DMV.
