That is why I am mad, the laser shifters aren't supposed to allow the gun to get a reading. Just dots across the screen....
The reason I was speeding is I got stuck late at work, and my 7 month pregnant wife was home alone with my 20 month old son. She called and said she was very hungry and feeling very weak. She ordered pizza and 90 minutes later it still wasn't delivered. She was getting very nervous, and was afraid she was going to pass out. Which happened on her last pregnancy.
I was very concerned and was trying to get home quickly while calling the pizza shop on the Bluetooth. That's when I got shot.
I got a speeding ticket a few months ago, and that is why I bought the 9500ci. Inhave slowed down dramatically and always look at the posted signs and use the radar just to be certain. I learned my lesson with the last ticket.
Lastly, and this is why I will probably sell my SS and get a new Tahoe. This car is fast, and anyone who says they always drive the posted speed limit is a LIAR!
Why would you but a Muscle car with 430hp if you didn't want to feel the power and really Drive once in a while.

Well, the up side to this is that now you know the officers in that area use laser, and if you get tagged with laser, you're pretty much screwed, so slow it down buddy.

Reason for Radar Detectors = To notify you to pull over before the red and blues are flashing behind you.
That is the use for them now. With instant on and laser, there is no way for a radar detector to pick up the signal, alert you and for you to slow down before the radar signal reaches back to the cop. Because you have it, you were able to slow down and pull over quicker for the cop and reduced your ticket price. I would say it works great. Everyone must remember...radar detectors do not detect the presence of cops, it detects a signal.

The shifters that come with the 9500c1 are ZR4's... They are not the best shifters around but will shift most guns to a few hundred feet...

Make sure the shifters are level and have an open view of the road... Also, if you do not have a front plate, they should be positioned by the headlights...

The best shifters are Laser Interceptor and Blinder... The ZR4's that came with your ci are fairly good against most guns but if you want / expect complete laser shifting then you need Laser Interceptors..

Your ticket should have the gun that was used and the distance he locked your speed at... What does this information say?

When it says laser and your speeding....your detector turns into a ticket detector...ie once it warns laser he already has you

Several issues here...

1) The ZR4's are not the best shifters / jammers around.. They do work, just not the best..

2) Your car is white = easier / more reflection for the laser

3) I read in the best detector thread that your shifters are mounted in the lower grille area... This is nowhere even close to being optimal placement with no front plate.. Add in the color of your car and the fact you are running the lesser performing ZR4 shifters and that = BAD!!! I would bet, that the shifters probably did noting due to where they are mounted if you had a headlight laser hit..

4) In that same thread you mention the antenna / receiver is mounted behind plastic... Again, not a good idea..

My recommendations?

1) Have the shifters moved into the upper grille area / front bumper area where they will be closer to the headlights... Also coat the headlights with Veil
2) Have the receiver / antenna moved from behind the plastic
3) If possible, buy Laser Interceptor shifters... 2nd best option is Blinder..
4) And of course... Slow down...

Here is an image of how / where my shifters are located...

Here is the GOL (Guys of Lidar) test results of shifters... Notice the ZR4's are not the greatest...

Raq,
I should have done more research before I bought the 9500ci.
What is veil and where do I get it?
Will the laser interceptors work with the 9500ci?

there is nothing wrong with the system.... other than who ever installed should hav e made sure in the programming that the shifters were turned on. for whatever reason the 9500ci comes witht he default setting of the shifters turned off.

... deleted first post.... but.....If it was truly a family emergency, then I won't hold it against you all that much,, just pay the ticket, and move on..

But unless you plan for these "emergencies" to happen all the time, you don't really need a radar detector..

So the mere fact that you own one, proves to me, that you would likely be speeding anyway..

And lastly if it was truely an emergency, why slow down just because it beeped, I mean after all -- It was an emergency.

The 9500ci is an awesome system, it's probably the best on the market... It's weak link is the shifters..

Yes the Laser interceptors will work with the 9500ci... If they are used in pllace of the ZR4's, you would remove the ZR4's and toss em, or sell them (they really are not that bad) and the Laser Interceptors would be installed... IF Laser Interceptors are used then Laser warning on the 9500ci would be turned off / disabled as the LI (Laser Interceptors) will do all the laser detection and jamming / shifting work...

If you want to keep the ZR4 shifters ( i have them, and they work fine ) on the 9500ci, 1st make sure the shifters are turned on via the options menu of the system, because as stated above, they are off by default..

Next move the shifters to the upper grille or front bumper area and coat the headlights with Veil...

http://www.radarbusters.com/radar-de.../laserveil.cfm

Also have the installer move the radar receiver / antenna from behind behind the plastic... I don't care what anyone tells you, for a detector to get it's best performance it needs a clear and unobstructed line of sight to the roadway...

For shifters to be effective they MUST have a clear sight of the roadway, be level (check with a bubble), and be straight (no toe in or out)..

The shifters must also be placed at close proximity to the target area... For cars with a front plate, that is in between the plate and headlights... For cars with no front plate, they are best positioned close to the headlights...

Many installers have no clue about actual radar and are all about making it look pretty and functional to the eye...

For radar and laser defense, true and actual functionality MUST come before prettiness... Anyone who tells who otherwise is just trying to cover up for a BAD install...

GOL tested ZR4's with and without Veil.... See results below... It does work..

One little caveat... A radar and laser detection / shifting system should never be a open ticket (pun intended) to haul ass.... I rarely *intentionally* speed and use my system as a reminder to check my speedometer... It's really not all that hard to get 10-12 mph over the limit and not notice it...

Drive safe, use the system as a reminder to check your speed, and don't haul ass on purpose because there really is NO defense system around that will protect from a laser ambush at under a few hundred feet..

I cant believe people would piss away so much on these things. unless everything is perfect your still going to get caught. Think of all the mods you could buy with 2000 grand but I guess it still would be funny blowing by a cop while doubling the speed limit and all they could do i look at you

Some do consider this a mod... For me, it's entertainment more than anything...

These days, your average ticket will cost about $250 plus the higher insurance costs... I figure every ticket is about $400 when all is said and done...

Would I spend 2K for it? No... My set up was $680 total... Remote detector, shifters, and Veil...

Would I fault anyone who spent 2k on it? Nope... If used properly, and what I mean by that, is not intending to haul ass with it, it can be a cool toy and can add a measure of safety to your driving...

Think of it this way... When my detector alerts, I pay more attention to the drivers around me... Once people finally see the officer on the side of the road, they do some pretty stupid things... Slam on brakes, swerve into the slow lane ect... If I know an officer is ahead running radar, I become far more cautious of the drivers ahead of me....

Plus, this car drives so smooth it is not hard at all to get 10mph or above without even trying or intending to.... 10mph over usually means a citation.....
