I just ordered the black part for $70 so I'll replace that myself.......to repaint the bumper, it looks like they will have to take it off and do work on it

Still say that is a $300 job max. They can sand, fill and blend that corner unless you want the entire bumper painted. Damage in an area where a blend would be fine.

So they can just treat the spots? I was told for this the whole bumper needs to be repainted.....it has other minor scratches above that deep one.

I bought the black part, it's called the lower panel, from gmparts on line. It cost $76.
You can easily swap out the old part in a matter of minutes.

while my car was at the dealer for some warranty work, the service manager took my Camaro out for a test drive and scraped my rear bumper (the painted portion). they removed and completely refinished the whole bumper. this was covered by the dealer, but i have paperwork describing parts and labor...

it came to $417.70... and this is just paint and labor... who knows what they'll charge if they want to make a buck off you.

I had my rear bumper bondoed and repainted for 250$ at a local shop. Dealer would've been more expensive. So I'll agree that around $300 should be the most you have to pay for it.

I put a 6-8 inch indent/scratch on my back bumper a while back. I went to the dealer where I bought the car and to repair the bumper they wanted $934.00 (ouch). I will get it fixed one of these day's, just seems awfuly high.

I got rear-ended at a red light a few months ago...had to have the plastic part of the bumper replaced and the rest repainted. The other driver's insurance paid for it, but the cost was $630.

Did you buy yours from a dealership or private? Dealership should have repaired but guessing you didn't notice the damage until a while after?

Ok I got enough money to fix this, and I'm constantly at the dealer ordering parts so I'm sure they wont rip me off, they might even help me out since they know I;m a college student who knows

I did. It was around $800 for the repaint. Replacement would have been $1,200.

Last rear bumper I had painted at a shop was about $500.. It happened to be a Chevy dealership with a body shop. It was for a Jeep bumper though. The casing wasn't damaged, just the paint. I did the same thing - replaced the lower diffuser/valance on my own for dirt cheap compared to OEM dealer price.
