They'll lose in court, it's against the law.

What's with all the political complaining? If I owned stock in GM, I would want them to trim costs too. Wait...I AM a shareholder

Actually, they cannot, by law, void out a complete warranty. They have to deal with a case by case, part by part circumstance. For example, they have to prove the extra 10 hp power CAI caused part xyz to fail.

Also, why would GM want to piss off the enthusiasts since they comprise a large part of the Corvette/Camaro buyers? If Ford embraces 'performance' and GM wants to go the boring Toyota route, then many will switch to Ford, or Dodge. Not a smart move.

This makes me very wary to mod my car. I want the good coverage I was promised, and worry-free driving for the first 3 years. But I want a CAI and an exhaust... I dont know if it is worth loosing a very good warranty...

I don't know who your family friend is, but I would like his/her name as what you were told was not factual!

You may send it to me in a PM if you wish.

My dealer (service manager) told me I could do anything I wanted to my LS3 as long as it didn't involve a tune. He specifically allowed a CAI and a muffler delete. I suppose I can take him at his word...he's been really honest so far.

Not totally true, but also nothing new. This subject has been beaten so badly the horse's remains are reduced to cinder and ash.

Warrantys are inplace to protect buyers of manufacture flaws and defect for when the product doesnt perform as designed. If you change something, I don't care what it is, it isnt AS DESIGNED, and they CAN void the warranty for anything that failed BECAUSE OF that change. If you tune the car and its a BAD tune, the car runs out of timing and predetonates and the engine blows... GUESS WHAT, NO WARRANTY. If they same thing happens and the radio stops working, you're fine. Its not that big of a deal.
1. trust your installer and know the going price, if its too cheap, avoid it.
2. trust your dealership service department.
3. live by the saying "you have to pay to play", if you can't afford to fix things that break, leave the car alone. They are pretty darn fun in stock form.

You CAN race it and the SUGGEST changing the fluids but they don't claim it will remain covered. And a day at the track is not "racing". I believe they mean if you turn this car into a "race car" they wont cover it. Again this is age old though, same with insurance, if you wreck at the track, you may not be covered!

This is nothing new, they've been doing this for the last 10+ years...

Many service managers that I've dealt with will initially deny coverage when they see aftermarket parts, or if anything suggests racing. And most factory service reps will
back them up.

to some degree, the OP's friend is full of crap, my DEALER installed my injen, I had them confirm it would not void my warranty before I ordered it.

I have the receipt showing they installed it, and there is no disclaimer of warranty on that document.

Guess I'm screwed then, but at least my car sound f'ing AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Just take the mods back off if you suspect you may have to go in for warranty service, always save the old factory parts.....If that's too much of a hassle and you don't want to then don't bitch.
