ummm no... I seriously said 11,000 miles, as the oil life monitor indicated... I looked at the oil as it came out... other than being a little darker than it was when the oil was new, it was fine... no metal shavings, etc... read the articles I linked.... I think the engineers knew what they were doing when they engineered the car, so I'll trust them... in fact they must be confident about the oil life monitor since they backed it up with a 5/100k warranty...

As for the mustang comment are you serious? For what its worth the vette I sold to get my camaro had over 270k on the original engine, never rebuilt and i changed the oil in that about every 10k miles....

I changed mine at 1,500 for the oil, tranny and differential and used synthetic. Oil and tranny temps are now 20 degrees cooler than breakin oil.

Lil huffy aren't we?

I had some in mine but I only saw them after I took a drop of my used oil and sread it thinly over a sheet of glass. It was there and I could feel it. I think it just depends on your driving conditions. This is not a set in stone rule to change the oil early on, I just do it because it makes sense, Ive seen and felt the shavings. I think the oil monitor is reliable but only after that 1st oil change, because, as you quoted, it doesnt actually analyze the oil. It just uses a computer and algorithms. I changed by oil at about 1700 miles then followed the indicator/dip stick after wards.

I had my first one done @ 1,200 miles and the 2nd one done @ 4,500 miles. I now have 6,400 and won't be doing another oil change until I hit around 10K miles.

The dealer charged me $132 for a simple oil change! I am obviously not taking it to the dealer again. My buddy owns a shop and I brought the Mobil 1 oil, they supplied the oil filter and charged me $18. I think the Mobile 1 was around $30. For under $50 to change my oil it gives me piece of mind.

Nah.... just annoyed because it appeared that the the comment was made without the person reading the linked articles and then suggesting that I turn in my keys and go buy a mustang.... that would be an insult in my opinion....

I suspect that all oil will have some metal particles in it, the research cited though suggests that oil especially synthetic oil should be left in the car longer than 3000 miles.... on one car they left it in for 14,000 miles with no adverse effect on the engine.... having said that I suppose if I would have finely filtered the 9 quarts that came out of my car during the first oil change we would have probably found some metal shavings, but I didn't do that.... and as I said, I trust the folks who engineered the car, and the oil life monitoring system.... but, that's me....

I'm at 9500 and still have 40% left and still running. She sat for 2 months at the dealership and I just now started a new job so I'll have to wait til I get some money rolling in to get my oil changed. Like it was said above, Ill trust the DIC designed by engineers.

I changed mine at 1500 and again at 2700. Oil is much cheaper than parts. Also keeps GM happy when it comes to warranty issues.

after going to autozone and buying two 4qt mobile 1 synthitic and a k&n filter, i paided 67 bucks after 10% discount, my dealer was charging 99 bucks to change the oil, to me I'd rather pay an extra 30 bucks then do it myself lol. but 140 seems high to me
