Scrming needs to weigh in on this. Does the jet performance chip do the same as the iat mod? Where you at Scrming? Have not seen you on for awhile.

As for the Jet Performance... no, not the same as the IAT mod... this replaces the MAF sensor along with the IAT. The claim with the Jet Performance MAF that the stock MAF sensor is restrictive and their MAF sensor flows better (up to 41%)... Since they don't actually have a picture of one that I could find not sure how they can do that... I did some research on these Jet Performance MAF back when these first cam out... Everything I found was guys saying either no gains or in fact some said it caused problems... so at that point I would say save your money...

What I don't understand is JET is a reputable company so I don't see how it would be a scam like you see on Ebay for the IAT mods. However they don't provide any factual data (ie. Dyno Sheet) to back up their gains. In all relativity your stock MAF calculates AIT and Volume, so any modification to that would have to show some sort of significant gains. Just to say it calculates the flow of air 41% better than your stock MAF would also mean that 41% of the air is miscalculated by your Stock MAF. Keeping that in mind if I were to say your Stock MAF reads 50 CI of air at an AIT of 55 degrees were being delivered to each of your cylinders, then the JET MAF would supposedly read 41% better than that at 70.5 CI of air. Given probable statistics of your MAF actually reading poorly would probably result in engine failure. First thing to go would probably be your camshaft position sensor, then you would fry your ECU. Which also brings me to this... Was the stock MAF sensor dirty when they replaced it to make these allegations?

However I don't see how it couldn't be a power adder if you were to have other modifications and a good tune. Maybe, just maybe, the stock MAF is restrictive for a reason. As far as a bolt-on without a tune I wouldn't recommend. Maybe it may be a good thing to get with a CAI. I'd still have to see a Dyno sheet to see if it's worth it.

Imo, with the few mods out there for the v6 camaro lovers, any help whould be a good thing, jet is a good reputable co. been in the buissness for years, i dont think they got there by saying lies, or being a false profit.
also, Rod1......... with you current mods what is your 1/4 mile time? and are you manual? or a/t ? please tell me specifics, 60' time, mph trap speeds, in 1/8 and 1/4, and what in your opinion was the best mods you did for the 1/4 mile time reduction? thx.... |

As for the MAF, well I think we all just want to see some proof. A little healthy scepticism doesn't hurt. Welcome aboard!

I've checked into Jet a little. The claims are VERY misleading. the 41% has NOTHING to do with our MAF. That relates to the old style MAF that had a wire screen in a plastic tube. Their tube used a coarser screen and larger diameter, so 41% more air could flow through. NOT our MAF.
IF their claims are correct about their version of our MAF it has ONE (and only one) benefit for us. And this is directly from their tech support: The jet MAF responds to changes in air flow quantity and temperature faster than the stock unit. If this is true, then it means when you step on it and the car starts moving, you get the benefits faster. Heat soak goes away quicker and the A/F ratio is adjusted to ideal quicker. So, if this is true, then you'll see your existing max potential quicker in the 1/4 mile. But you won't gain any extra HP unless the stock is so slow that the MAF doesn't update until AFTER 14 seconds. However, I'm not going to spend $140 on this unless I've already got every other mod on the planet, or someone posts a timesheet showing the swap on the same day making a difference. |
