Apparently not here in good ol' Tennessee. I talked to 2 officers from neighboring county sheriffs depts. Both said he could have filed a police report, sworn out the warrant & the officer would have issued a citation. He would have had to "prove" it in court, my word against his. But I do live in a very rural county with a pretty deep good ol' boy network, so it could have come down to who he knows.

I can certainly understand your surprise -

...but when you think about it - what the officer did was not a bad thing....

There are many people I see each day going to and from work (and other places) that need to have a copy tell them what they're doing wrong.

(a stop sign means STOP!)

(the law in michigan and pennsylvania is 'keep right - left for passing"

(The crosswalk is NOT where your car should be stopped - it's there for pedestrians - NOT your front bumper - or your hood - or your trunk, for that matter)

The only way to make people pay attention sometimes is to call their attention to bad behavior.

(....and I'm not saying what you did was bad behavior - there are way too many people who want to speed up when you go to pass them...)

The crosswalk is my favorite...if I only had a dollar for every person that stopped in one.....

Its like those damn red light cameras we have too. I got caught in the middle of an intersection because I suddenly realized a cop was coming through with blue lights flashing. Well the light turned red and FLASH FLASH FLASH off went the cameras taking a picture of my license plate! Thankfully I got out of that one!

Sorry to hear about the discord, and many employers and forms of employment require a clean driving as well general arrest records, including ones related to traffic statute violations which might lead to being arrested.

Though I'm not suggesting you retaliate against the Sunday driver who pulled a quicky in an obvious attempt to use Law Enforcement to establish his authority over your movements on the hwy, by harassing and embarassing you for passing him, they're equally effective means available to you if you ever have to deal with this person or anyone like him who believes they have a tool to "Get Ya"...............Gett'em back by swearing out your own counter complaint. The enclosed event surrounds an entirely different scenario...............but the Tennessee Statute mentioned is still applicable no matter.

Quote:
The prosecution argued the traffic stop was legal because of a violation of Tennessee code, which states “no person shall drive a motor vehicle at such a slow speed as to impede the normal and reasonable movement of traffic.”
Quote:
“The Legislature’s use of the phrase ‘slow speed’ indicates that the statute’s scope is much more broad,” the decision stated. “Had the Legislature intended for a violation to occur only when an automobile was completely stopped in the roadway or caused other automobiles to stop, it would have said so.”

People in NJ always speed up when you try to pass them. It's especially hard for me to pass in my Corolla :(

I think you'll be safe Ruby. They have no hard proof.

Don't worry...that is a nationwide thing..

It is nice to finally have a car that can burn someone's face off if they pull this move.

Had the same thing relative the guy speeding up happen to me twice coming back froma long trip a few months ago...

First time, way out in west texas, guy driving 55 in a 70, no clear paassing area for a while, so... I wait... no need to kill myself. Find a long clear area, designated passing area, and go to pass him... No hammer, just ease down into 5th, and start around... He blows smoke out the tail pipe and takes off, sort of... All I had to do was push a little firmer on the gas and I went right around him, got a safe distance and then pulled back into my lane... Wife asked, "what was that all about?" I explaind that knuckleheads think either they can out run me, want to see what my car will do, or feel like they are the designated traffic controllers.

Second occurance, about 8 hours later... well after dark, very familiar road to me, and a goofball in a new 381 or whatever HP Toyota truck is driving about 58 - 60 in a 65 mph zone... I know the road, so I patiently wait until a safe area comes up. I downshift into 5th, look to make sure all is clear, and then ease into the opposing lane for the pass... BIG, puff of smoke and off he goes... to hell with this, I'm tired and no longer in the mood, by this time I'm going up through 70, and he is still pulling away, so................ I grab third, from 5th, and hammer it... As I'm shifting down, my wife makes a comment that I faintly hear but causes me to bust out laughing really loudly... "oh... he is going to be so dissappointed."

Well, as you would expect, my SS smoked his puke-up truck, and I went by him so fast I think his headlights got sucked out, cause I never saw him again after about 30 seconds...
