Nevertheless, Ted said that at the power level we are at now the cats do not handle it well for that long. So, since I don't argue with Ted we got an off-road pipe comming and I will see what Kooks will do with the cats.
Yup, mine are gone too.

I have heard similar from tuners down here as well. It has to do with the heat from the power being made. I was told that they don't like high hp levels above 700 BUT there isn't much data or discussion here to support....yet.
The unfortunate thing is that they are a necessary evil to stay street legal.

Is there an aftermarket cat setup that can handle a car with 20psi boost and 1200rwhp? Seems like it would be large in sizt to handle that evironment and survive.

(I hate cats too. I have always been a dog lover though.)

SuperchargedSS,
My apologies, I just found your thread started on the cats.

Here are a few pics of how it looks when they come apart. Notice these are in the pipe behind the cat, as the cats were totally burned out and hollow. No need to order another its now a self made off road x pipe with the cats in place!

Even these High flow Cats were never designed to handle the Power we are making with these engines.

Cat converters are built with Cubic inch and HP in mind, when you add a Blower your basically Doubling the Cubic inch displacement.

The Cats would need to be Triple the size to handle the HP we make.

Disclaimer, These mods are for Off Road Use ONLY.

That cam sounds great. Nice and mellow. Hope I can find $2000 to buy the kit. Is this a hard conversion for me to do? I am fairly mechanical restored 55-57 T-birds for 5 years and regular mechanic for about 3 years.
