The LS3 is one of Chevy's work horse engines. Nearly bulletproof. Drive it like you stole it from the get go. If it's going to break, I want it to break under warranty. AND let me tell you, once you hit 4000-5000 miles..........hold on!

Broke mine in "under load" for the first 500 miles, then varied rpm for the next 1000, then changed the oil and considered the break in period over.

I kept it under 130mph until it was over 500 miles then tested the speed limiter, It really does cut off at 155. I guess that is what drive it like you stole it means.

I broke mine in to match my style of driving; aggressive. Romped on it at least twice a day (up to 80-90mph) for about 3 weeks or so. Just basically drove it hard whenever possible.

He responds nicely now when I need him to

I got my car with 26 miles on it at the dealer.

I dropped my wife of at her mothers house and said you're not going to like what I'm about to do to this car, so you might want to stay here.

I than proceeded to an interstate and hammered the hell out of our new car up and down the RPM range. However don't decelerate hard with the engine loaded (put into N if it's an L99 or push in the clutch and out of gear on a LS3 as you slow down). Now my car runs like a BEAST!

You have to run the piss out of it at first to seat the rings properly. It then needs to sit over night and cool off then you need to go out the next day and do it all again. You will be amazed at how much power the car will gain in the first 50 miles you do this!

By the way I also changed my oil at 500 miles.

This is a highly debated subject. There is a great thread on here that goes into great detail on this subject. Do a search to find this thread.

*****foot it and it will never reach it's true potential.

How many change their oil sooner than the Oil Life thing tells you do during the break-in miles?

I'm at a bit over 700 miles now, figure it can't hurt since there's 90%+ left on the Oil Life so it may be a while until the car wants it changed.
