Plausible, though difficult to trace or prove. Those in power, regardless of their political affiliation, simply do not want the consuming public-at-large to know the truth. Bad for business I would suppose.

They are a big player in commodity trading, plus well connected with the government, so they are definitely capable.

And if they are willing to short their own stock for profit(happened earlier this year), they will probably do anything....

About the cloth inserts, I had no idea either - I had only test driven 2LTs before deciding on a 1LT RS, and when it came in I was like "wow the interior's very...black..." Also I agree, cloth on the dash is a little strange and took some getting used to.
