What is up with this 2 way standard?? Then finally, while I am on this soap box, how can a different state legally ticket you for something on your vehicle when when it is legal in the state that it is registered? All states have to recognize a drivers license no matter what type of drivers ed if any you had. Shouldn't they be required to accept a vehicle that was licensed in a different state if it meets all federal and its own state laws just like a drivers license? I think we should look into a getting a federal law requiring this!! A lot of states are using this just to make money!! It also hurts our service men/women when they have to move.

Also, TRC-SS I appreciate all cops and thank them all for all you do. I know you all have to uphold the law no matter agree or disagree. I just gave my 2 cents on the laws. Im in the military and if I have to drive across country to move, I have to look at the laws in every state I drive in to see if I am breaking a tint, exhaust or any other law with my car. That gets expensive on a military salary.
i just enforce the laws (most of them, some are stupid..haha) i dont make them so no yelling at me. If your tint is legal in the state you live in then its legal everywhere else. and if they stop you and give you a ticket for that shame on them for not knowing the rules. they have to prove that you live or reside in that state for a period of 30 days or longer in order to write you a ticket...but unfortunately some police officers will still right you the ticket (even tho its a bad cite) because they know you wont come back to that state months later just for a ticket appeal.

I wasn't yelling lol, just saying. I know in the state of Georgia and Virginia, by their state law, they can give tickets even if you are out of state for tint. Virginia is the worst because their law not only requires mufflers, but OEM or OEM like mufflers. So with any performance aftermarket exhaust with mufflers, you can still get a ticket for illegal exhaust even if you are just driving through the state and not registered there. You can search on google and see a lot of people that has happened to.

Sorry for making you think I was yelling, I didn't mean it like that and understand that you have to do your job. This whole thing just hit a nerve and just wanted to put my 2 cents out. Again, thanks for putting your life on the line everyday. I can say for sure, most of the time our police offers face just as much if not more danger here in our homeland then even our military see overseas.

I understand the safety thing. I always roll down the window and put both hands on the wheel. But if I were to get pulled over for just tint, I wouldn't be very happy.

Yes...in Mass you need to get the letter from the doctor and bring it to the DMV and get your waiver.

Any one who has vision issues or gets migrains on a common basis is eligible for this...(think i have a headache coming on)

it was 135.00 The guy was a prick. I still cant believe he reached in my car and then later goes onto tell me I will get one next for no front license plate too. The only reason I got pulled over was for pointless stuff like this. Everyone i know has got a warning. if I was driving a beater I most likely would of never got a ticket.

Secondly, I have always tinted my vehicles due many reasons, one including looks. Im Mass all law enforcement officials are exempt from state tint laws along with some other states. The reason being is due to traveling back and forth from work in uniform and paid details ect.

Now the main reason police are very picky on tint laws is for one reason and one reason only. SAFTEY......have you ever tried walking up behind a car that has all its windows tinted at 11pm. You cannot see a thing inside this car...and i know other officers can relate...its scary not knowing what your walking into....i dont know about other cops but i work in a city and with cities come more crime. so when im on a car stop and i cant see in the car its very dangerous for the police...i have no way of knowing if theres 1 person in the car or 4. and secondly they could have a damn shotgun pointed at me for all i know.

so the short of the story is, its not a personal thing against you or your cars...these cops are looking at it as a saftey hazard to them.

and i can tell you one thing....i have NEVER written anyone for window tint....I have written warnings but never Money tickets.

As far as the tint meter...if your asked to roll up the window for the tint meter...you do have to in massachusetts, its part of the investigation...if you dont, its not like your going to get arrested but you probably are going to get a ticket for everything wrong with your car..

Thats all guys...my suggestion......Keep the tint as close to your states legail limit...and dont go so dark that its severely noticable....i like 20%...in the daylight you can still see in but it looks awsome
i know what you mean by safety for the officer. my dad was a officer back in the 70s. now heres my problem with some officers writing tint tickets. i feel a officer should make a judgment call on rather the person tinting his car is a threat. if you pull somebody over for tints and the car is "crapy" and the person has a history and things like that. then yes give them a ticket.. but if its a Lamborghini then why waste time.

heres what the law should be.. you can tint your windows 20% not including the front windshield. but if you get pulled over you must roll down all windows. and if you fail to do this, a officer can write you a ticket.

how does that sound?
