Just asking, why would you be asking about the new Dexos oil when the car has Mobil 1 on the cap. Which by the way from what research I've done Mobil 1 is the only comparible oil.........just sayin

Unfortunately this is most dealers. I walked into a dealer and I knew more options than they did. Just for fun, I studied everything about a car (I forgot which one it was) and quized them on a few things. They were shocked that I knew more than they did. Only thing that they are out for is money in their back pocket. They hate it when you have someone that knows cars/trucks and when you know more about the product then they do. They switch over to the "I work here and still know more than you because I work here" mode.

Yes, I agree up to a point. My dealer knew less about the Camaro that I wanted to get than I did. They don't carry ANY GM accessories in the parts department and they don't know what's available. But they did tell me I could probably find what I wanted on the Internet (DUH!). On the other hand when it became apparent that I know what I wanted to buy, what options I wanted and had done my research, the sales staff was extremely cordial and helpful. When I had some special requests at delivery they went the extra mile to work with me on it. And now that I have the Camaro and have had an ongoing issue with an emission code, they know be by name when I drive into the service bay and always put my Camaro at the top of the list to get diagnosed and worked on. Overall I'm pleased with my dealer.

How much do you know about the Chevy Aveo? Equinox? Cruz? Silverado? Taho? Volt? Impala? Malibu? Cobalt?

The salesman has to know about all these and the trim levels of each. You only know the Camaro and Vette. Just sayin.

I have to take exception to this....

Many sales reps are this way, as they are just the talking head for the dealership. They tramp from dealership to dealership, working for many different manufacturers... I've never run into a Camaro Sales Specialist, other than a few of them on this forum... or much of any other specialist for that matter... The service manager is usually a very well informed person, NOT Always, but most of the time...

Studying before going shopping to know what you are buying is great, studying to prove how much of an idiot the dealer is... (tool)... Try educating rather than trying to belittle them, and you'll get better service down the road... They'll be happy to see you come in to upgrade to the Z-28...

I did business at a dealer 3 hrs away from my area and was satisfied with everything overall. The only thing the salesman didn't know that the L99 and the LS3 offered different levels of hp. I got a total of $1k off the asking price. I also got an additional $1k off for some sale I just missed and $500 off for opting out of the 60 day test drive or whatever it was. After all was said and done I threw in my GM Card points and got an additional $1,500 off. So $4k off the asking price in '09 when they hardly wanted to budge on lowering the price, I feel I did fair with this deal on getting the 1SS/RS o.t.d. cash price, no trade in, and for just under $34k.

My dealership in Phoenix never heard of Dexos, and they say they have never received any notice from GM about it. Wasn't intereted in getting any info from GM either. I picked up some Pennzoil Platinum that IS dexos approved at Wal-Mart. Did it myself and saved a bunch.

Every dealer was sent the same Dexos announcement bulletin - it's a parts bulletin (CCA10-129 ). The trick is they need to be able to read.

The Wal-Mart by me has had Pennzoil Platinum on sale for a while now, $25 for a 5qt jug. I've been using it in my Camaro and Silverado.

my dealer really did know what he was talking about in most cases. Camaro5 really does make you an expert on specs so you could probably outsmart most salespeople, but as long as they know the basic facts and how the sales/ordering system works, I'm ok with it! My salesperson knew the proper fuel, oil, and engine specs, so I couldn't complain. He showed me how to set up my bluetooth and iPod when I got the car, so I know this guy studied the car. He deserves every sale he gets. The dealership works hard for their sales. The service dept seems to be doing very well too. We'll see how my car looks when I pick it up @ the end of the week too

they should know but sadly the often don't. trust me unless they are on here every day like all of us we know way more than they ever will about these cars.

obviously there are some really cool people/dealers on here that know what they are talking about. deal with them if at all possible

Take a look at this site.
http://www.dealerrater.com/

Just check out some of the dealers in your area and see what people are saying about them. At least it might be a good starting point when looking for a dealer.

Just my 2 cents.
