if you are a patient person, order your car exactly like you want it. you will be glad you did. if you are and ocd, add, bi-polar, manic depressive, impatient person like me, then just have em do that locator thing. i ordered mine and im glad i did now, but it was torture waiting.

Wonderfully Awful Idea
|
I bought at the dealer. They had to do a locate and trade to get there. They also had to truck it in. All no extra. After 2 days wait it was exactly what I wanted. NO REGRETS! I suggest if they don't have what you want then they can do a locate at other dealerships. Then if they don't find it, order it. Be prepared though from the forums the wait is KILLER.

I ordered because I wanted what I wanted.
Also didn't want a car that either sat for months or had multiple test drives by dreamers. |

I was planning on ordering, but when my dealer found one within 500 miles, 2 days seemed a lot more attractive than 2-3 months. So I'm sitting here waiting on it to arrive!

The wait's not THAT bad, especially now. I ordered over a year ago back on the tail end of the period when dealerships were lucky to have one on the lot and you either bought that one or had to order anyway (but after the initial rush when it took a couple months to get the car). You calm down a bit after that first week, and when it arrives a few weeks later it's just as exciting, if not more because you know you got EXACTLY what you wanted. All it costs you is a little more time.

Order it. You get the emotional joy of waiting 6-8 weeks for it. Ordering gets you exactly what you want, not what a sales manager at a dealer thinks you want.
Ordering may be cheaper too since the dealer does not have to finance an ordered car as part of flooring costs to keep inventory on the lot. |

You might get a better deal buying off the lot, at the end of the month. You might be able to live with a different color combo, if you can save big.

If they have what you want buy it, if not order it.
The key is get what you want.

I agree with everything already stated above. I suggest researching all the options and choosing what you would want and then check with dealers to see if there is one around that compares for the money.
I bought my 2010 when GM was still trying to catch up with the demand and I was too impatient to look for my RS 2LT A6 (tapshift) with all other available options that I wanted. I even paid the premium to order what I wanted. Either choice, you won't be disappointed. I am sure you will love your new Camaro as we all do. PS: Being one of the luckiest people in the world, I recently found a great deal and also bought a 2008 Corvette manual 6.2L V8 with 12 month GM certified waranty. I now have the best of both worlds. I continue to receive compliments on both whereever I go. I now have 3 with my 2004 Monte Carlo. Isn't it a great life? Good luck on your choice and enjoy! |

Aren't dealers/salesmen pressured to clear their lots before taking orders? I would imagine it's easier to get a better deal that way but i've never ordered a car from the factory.
Have your dealer search for the car within their network. Someone wants to get your car off their lot before it sits too long. |

In most cases (unless it's the previous model year), you get a better deal ordering.

Read my sig line.
You have zero leverage in price haggling too. Funny you ask this question when you did. I had the dealer call me last night and tell me my car is in. Told him that I bought a different one in Dallas 3 months ago. Took them 5 months to get the car in. 3 different dealers all swore "Oh, we have a allocation, no problem..." Each one could not produce a order status of 2500 or bettter within 2 months of me handing them money. Told the third one that I was not going to give him any money until he produced an order status of 2500. Never did. So I never went back. Flew to Dallas and bought one of the lot. Got a sunroof and polished wheels I didnt want, but I got my car when I wanted it. I think the biggest question is finding the right dealer if you are going to order one. CamaroScotty or BeckyD@Rogerschevrolet would be the best.

Commits weekly crime

I bought mine off the lot.
I did, however, do a search through multiple dealerships and found the EXACT combination of features I wanted.

I just ordered mine as I could not find the combo I wanted. Really cool getting the build updates. See my signature!
