CHP gives those out like water. I received one last month and paid the $25.00 and had my tint guy come out the same day to re-apply for $50.00. Total cost was $75.00 and I saved myself $100.00.

They wanted $175.00 to leave the tint on and mail the bail amount in.

Tint Violation here in Massachusetts is $250.00 35% legal limit

However not strongly enforced as CHP

That states that you can have tint at 35% or higher, but unfortunately doesn't mention rear or front specifically. So from what I can gather you can have up to 35% tint on any of the rear and rear side windows, but none on the front with out signed documentation saying you need it for a medical condition.

Interesting...

That sucks Micheel, epspecially since you already got busted for no front license plate too. I have had 20% on the front windows of all my cars for years. Last time i got ticket for it was by CHP and I was already getting a ticket for speeding. I got pulled over in my Camaro for speeding a couple months ago, but he let me go. Didn't say a word about my tint or even notice my whole windshield has 70% tint on it. I try to roll them down if not too noticeble when i see a cop though.

When tint is legal:

(d) Notwithstanding subdivision (a), clear, colorless, and transparent
material may be installed, affixed, or applied to the front side windows,
located to the immediate left and right of the front seat if the following
conditions are met:

(1) The material has a minimum visible light transmittance of 88 percent.

(2) The window glazing with the material applied meets all requirements
of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard No. 205 (49 C.F.R. 571.205),
including the specified minimum light transmittance of 70 percent and
the abrasion resistance of AS-14 glazing, as specified in that federal
standard.

(3) The material is designed and manufactured to enhance the ability
of the existing window glass to block the sun's harmful ultraviolet A rays.

(4) The driver has in his or her possession, or within the vehicle,
a certificate signed by the installing company certifying that the
windows with the material installed meet the requirements of this
subdivision and identifies the installing company and the material's
manufacturer by full name and street address, or, if the material was
installed by the vehicle owner, a certificate signed by the material's
manufacturer certifying that the windows with the material installed
according to manufacturer's instructions meets the requirements of this
subdivision and identifies the material's manufacturer by full name
and street address.

(5) If the material described in this subdivision tears or bubbles,
or is otherwise worn to prohibit clear vision, it shall be removed
or replaced.

I'm not sure how current the reference info is, but my understanding is back windows can be completely painted black if you desired, as long as you have both side mirrors.

You just stated the federal statue law. Its a federal law that the windows can be no darker than 35% on sedan or coupe car. Google the law and see. I don't know where you got that you can make back window as dark as you want. If there's no proof to back it up then im sure its false.

You can do whatever you want to any window except the front two. I've had Limo tint on the rear windows of every car I've owned and have never had a problem.

I was once given a ticket for tinted windows here in CA even though I held an AZ license and the car was out of state. I told the police officer that in my state it is legal to have tinted windows and he said I was not in my state, lol.

I told him to go to Blithe and ticket all AZ drivers for tint and no front plate then.
Same thing happend to me...

I was in the Navy stationed in San Diego for nine years. but my home of record was AZ...

Luckily he didn't write me a ticket but he did say that if he saw me again he would cut a hole in my tint...

Back then I think they were allowed to do that....

Luckily we never crossed paths... but I was pissed. They used to regularly pull me over for CARB #'s on all my mods... I think they thought I was dealing drugs... They could see the base decal on my windshield... I finally started handing them my Militray ID with my DL....

They stoped searching my truck but still pulled me over about once every 2 months...

That state is way out of whack.

For CA, that is true. The officer said as long as you have TWO side mirrors, you could block out the rear window and it wouldn't matter. Front windshield and front 2 windows are off limits.
