I used State Farm for years in a plan together with my parents. I maintained a decent driving record for 11 years. In 2001 I got in a minor fender bender (not involving anyone else or any other car) and I had been drinking enough to get me over the legal limit. After all was said and done, I got my next policy renewal 2 months later and my rates went from $1,260 single vehicle for 6 months, to $3,875 single vehicle for 6 months. I obviously didn't renew with them and switched to Progressive direct who has been an excellent insurance company with great service.
Currently I am paying $1,165 for 6 months, top coverages, for both my 2004 Ram truck and my 2010 Camaro SS. State Farm can kiss it!

Damn, I got rear-ended a few months back and the lady had State Farm. They had an adjustor at my office two days later, and a check in my hand the following week. They didn't even give the body shop any trouble when he had to invoice them for the rear GFX (they didn't have that in their system) and it was as much as the rear bumper cover, paint and labor combined. The initial estimate was $983, the total after the GFX was a little over $2K.

I have had numerous bad experiences with State Farm and will never insure with them and would advise anyone else not to.

Usually the problems ensue with the local agent. I had used State Farm for almost 30 years with ZERO issues on any claim. And they're great to have them on your side if it is indeed the other guy's fault and the other company is dragging their feet. Take it to YOUR agent, and he'll do the dirty work for you beating up the other company.

The only reason I switched was when we built our new house, the new State Farm agent wanted to know nearly every square foot and what material it was. It was a headache just to get an estimate. And when they came back with 1500 per year, the Allstate cost to rebuild policy looked a heckuva lot better with higher limits on liability for about half the cost. I still might consider them again though.

I had a State Farm stated value policy on my 87 GN which was then stolen (and totaled). They then offered me about 3/4 of what my stated value was and insisted that was it. Took some arguing but I got my full amount afterwards.

Then i switched to GEICO.

I got screwed over by State Farm in 2000, they had the nerve to say "Sue us", agent outside of Pittsburgh, in/around Whitehall. My car was total over spring break, when a stolen car smashed up my first Cutlass! Imagine going back to college, no car, using public transportation to get to and from the store and school.

One of those, why am I in Pittsburgh!?!?!?! Took my ass back to Rochester the next school year. Live and learn.

For years after that i never wanted to deal with them, then about 4/5 years ago I let the insure my Chrysler 300, then my Challenger, now my Camaro. I think it comes down to the agent. My agent and his staff are great.

I have had several claims with State Farm and never once had any issues.

a. Motocycle Accident - $6k damage, no problem. They even gave me money to buy new helmet, jacket, and gloves!
b. Motorcycle Theft - $7k owed on bike and they gave me retail value $9k! (as well they shoud!)
c. Motorcycle Accident - $3k damage, cut the check in 2 days!
d. Vehicle vandalism - $2.5k repair bill , paid without delay.
e. Numerous towing bills - each time I just walked into the office with my receipt and they cut me a check on the spot.
f. Windshield replacement - no problem!

I love State Farm. Well, they love me too. My houses and vehicles are insured with them.

I had an Ins Co. once tell me that. Told them I won't sue, I'm going after why you are a licensed agent in the state of CT, and your acting in a corrupt manner. Got a check that week.

Noted, I ended up taking them to court and getting my money... a year later. But it took me about as long to find a better Cutlass.

I have state farm and the biggest suggestion I can make is to get the claim number and drop it off at a certified body shop by state farm let them process the claim, do the work and get paid by the insurance company.

it seems to be the fastest way from bad to driving again.

25 years of me, 25 years of my brother, and 50 years of my Dad, and no complaints. A few claims here and there and they always paid quick. They even paid for a T-Top that someone dropped (under full glass coverage).

The moral of this story is make sure you get a formal police report (if there is over 50 dollars damage). Some states allow officers not to take a report if their is less than 100 dollars damage. If there is not someone CLEARLY at fault and there is no police report (citation) you will have a hell of a time...that is not State farm's fault. EVERY company does this...every company has sh-- moments...every company has screwed someone and every company has good moments. I got this 2011 Camaro SS insured for only 500 every 6 months and im only 25 with SF. Fact is..sometimes you will just have bad experiences with everyone. There are people on here who like SF, people who don't...the same can be said for every other company.
