Guess they are trying to hit two birds with one stone; keep the cheap n' fast Z/28 heritage alive but with the bruiser presence of the Shelbys and High-po Vettes.

I can't wait for more comments from the 'Vette boys hating on these comments. Nothing is yet proven, so I just hope that quote was taken out of context or mis-quoted.

ill call there bluff and say this aint gona happen.
it will A- need serious power/control to beat the z06 or B- loose some serious weight and out handle it.
even at that i highly doubt it will be anywhere near 45k.

i could be proven wrong tho and hope so.

If this will be true:
"We just want the Z28 to be the fastest car possible for under 45 grand,"

They are going to be awarded one of these for sales:

It would surely be really cool. And have the Chevrolet feeding from a lot of Ford plates.

BUT, it would have Chevy feeding from a lot of CHEVY plates as well.

I'm telling you RIGHT NOW. This will not be the case.

NO WAY Chevy sells a Camaro that beats a Z-06.

I can see it edging out a Grand Sport on the track, but I can't comprehend a 4000 lbs car beating a Z06 around the track, especially not at the price point specified.

I'd think it would need at least LS9 type power with very capable suspension and brakes to make it possible. If we get that for a starting price of 45k, it'll be the best automotive bargain in the industry.

Yup. If I were a negetive thinker, I'd think that .... oh ..... say ... the Z-28 were gonna be faster around a road course than a Z-06.

Cause then it would be Chevy competing against themselves again, and kicking their ass.

Then that would mean lost money, and a bad rep.

So to think possitive, I think that a Z-06 is a Z-06 and a Z-28 is a Z-28.

The 'vette should have been revised/on its way out anyways. Probably better from a business standpoint to sell more Camaros than the z06's that they can still manage to sell every year.

1. Faster than a Grand Sport Vette (DUH)
2. Faster than a C6 Z06 Vette, Maybe considering when the Z/28 comes out the next gen vette should be right around the corner, so yeah I say its possible. Faster than a C7 Z06 is not possible.
3. Under $45k

Edit: I'm guessing its going to be $54k not $45.

all speculation. no actual source. . . I still say it will be closer to 50 for base. but with options I can see your 54.

Just give us the engine & rear axle option please!!

I personally believe the existing car, chasis, suspension etc..etc.. is sufficient enough to have the engine option with a more aggressive rear axle ratio. It's already bulletproof....turns as if on rails, and stops on a dime. GM can't make the car idiot proof by putting beefed up brakes and suspension on a LS9 or LSA engine outfitted body. It's making it overkill, and vastly too expensive. None of us are driving it at Daytona or Watkins Glen. Offer a suspension/brake upgrade option like they did with the F bodies. But I believe they should give us the RPO option of the LS9 or LSA engine and at least 3.73-4.10 gears as well. Call it Z-28, same car overall as a 1SS, but with a LS9...options for rear axle ratio, suspension, and brakes...ala carte....let your wallet be your limit....but don't jam it all together into one with little to no wiggle room for options and make into the Godzilla of all Camaro's. We have all those speciality licensed GM dealers to do that if we want.
