It's just a credit card that your charges earn you points towards the purchase of GM vehicles.

$1000 is the minimum for all cars except the ZR1.
The Camaro allowance will surely be $1000

Either way, GMS + GM card = $3000-$3500 below MSRP for me!

There are a few different GM credit cards (1%, 5%, etc.) and you can use the GM extended family card (1% earnings) in conjunction with GMS pricing. I am sure you could use these earnings with supplier too. I am not familiar with the restrictions on the other cards (but know they can not be used with GMS), but can confirm using earnings from the "GM extended family card" and GMS (have done it several times).

FYI, GMS is employee discount (current employees, retirees and their immediate families) GM supplier discount can be given to employees of suppliers and many other companies that qualify, military, and executive GM employees can give a few a month to friends and extended family. I am sure there are other ways to qualify for this discount, but that's what I can think of off the top of my head.

Here is a lonk to the card that can be used with GMS

I have the classic card and saved up 3500 there's one even older that had a greater limit . If your a new applicant the only give you the new card that has preset earning limits per vehicle and 3% per purchase. The older one was 5%. Does anyone know if you can use the classic with suplier discount, I looked it up some time ago and only found employee pricing info and it could not be used with that.

I got an email back from the GM Cardmember Services Redemption Center.

"Unfortunately, we do not have any information on the new Chevrolet
Camaro in regards to eligibility or Redemption Allowances."

Big surprise, huh? lol

I can confirm the older card with 5% has been combined with the supplier's discount.

Now if they would just let me use all $2987 I've got saved up instead of what will likely be a limit of $1000...

as i said in a similar thread, with the one type card you get 5% up to $500 per year, but all the earnings can be applied to any purchase. I will have around $4000 by the time mine is built, last used when I bought a 2001 Camaro.

With the older one it's a max of 3500 and points start expiring at seven years mine start going in April. I would check your account online unless you have the one that's even older than mine pre 1997 the max is 3500. I remember reading they converted everyone over to the 3500 limit I may be wrong but check anyhow. If it's the new one they will limit you to preset limits so you may not be able to use the 4000 usually the most is 2000 but for this car 1000 is more likely.

Are there different supplier discount? I may be able to use supplier or college Grad but my friend says his supplier discount will be less than invoice but when I check college grad prices on other cars it's more than invoice. I remember reading somewhere college grad was same amount as supplier.

From the net . . . . .

"When I first received my GM Card Gold Mastercard over ten years ago, the benefits were very generous. As I recall, the annual earnings cap was $1000, for a maximum of seven years. Earnings could be applied directly to the purchase or lease of a new GM vehicle and could be combined with any other discount or rebate. Sadly, this was scaled back to a $500 annual limit after a number of years.

Household bank now offers only the “new” GM Card to new applicants. Annual earnings, which are still a generous 5% of purchases, are no longer capped. However, the earnings amount you can apply to a new vehicle IS capped, with the limit tied to the make and model you chose. The GM Card assures members that they will always be able to redeem at least $1000 toward a “new model year introduction.” Typical redemption “allowances” range from $1500 to $2500 or so, depending on the make, model, and year of the vehicle purchased. See the GM Card website for redemption allowances on specific models.

Earnings on both the old and new card are valid for seven years. After seven years, the oldest points will expire first.

If you have the old Gold or Blue GM Card, should you convert to the new card? That probably depends on your current earnings and your time horizon for buying a new GM car. If you’re eager to earn as many points as possible in a few years, and apply it to a new car, it may be more rewarding to convert. If you tend to keep your cars a long time, and don’t plan to buy a new car for quite a while, you may prefer to keep the old card so you can earn and redeem as much as $350"

With $6000+ in earnings on this card, there is no way I can use them all in a few years time unless I buy a couple of GM trucks a year. No chance of that b/c we just cashed in on three new trucks in 08. Boohoo right?!

But does anyone know of a "SAFE" way to transfer these earnings to someone else. One has to provide that card number to the dealer and if I'm not mistaken some of the paperwork they send you home with has that number on it. I'd like to farm out some of my earnings, but I DO NOT want anyone to be able to access my number. And for the life of me no one in my family wants a new GM.

The one my wife has lets you get cash back and/or use it for a new car. it might be better if you cash out whatever is not usuable i.e. 4000 if you can use 2000 on camaro and use the other money as part of the down payment. It wont be 4000 probably around 1000 but still something. Theres different cards out there i think she gets 3% for car, and 1% if used for cash. Anyhow you don't evn have to build up your balances they always bump you up 1 or 2 grand. My wifes card has 300 something in earnings and she gets offers all the time to top off earnings to 2000.
