How long does a tune take to complete and how much should I expect to pay for one.

Technically zero.....unless it came with a canned handheld.

You really should have it towed to your tuner before you start driving around on a lean A/F ratio - call AAA and don't risk it.

A little extreme if he loaded the 6psi tune that came with the unit. As long as he isn't "boosting" it on the way there just cruising will be more than safe....

If the supplied tune wasn't loaded, then def tow it!

A canned tune was loaded and I didn't hear any ping or knocking on a 20 mile mellow drive last night. Did see a CHP hiding out in the canyon I drove through and was really glad I was being extra mellow with it.

Usually an hour or two. Cost depends on the shop and where they are located. Up here in NorCal things are ridiculously expensive compared to SoCal. Mine was part of my package so I don't know exactly but I would think between 250.00-400.00 depending on time spent...

Supercharger dyno tune will be around $500. Just a tune and no dyno time will be around $300.

And don't forget the ECM and knock sensors still work as they did before.

if there is too much knock/detonation the engine will go into "safe mode" and retard timing to keep you from blowing it up.

Mine went into safe mode just from the exhaust bumping on the tunnel brace.

Here's the thread on that. http://www.camaro5.com/forums/showthread.php?t=105015

I'm sure you are fine. but take the precautions everyone here is giving you.

try not to make much boost and don't go WOT until you get a dyno tune.

Most tunes are in the 400 - 600 range or you can go with a mail order tune from guys like Janetty. Not sure what the price is there. I HIGHLY recomend getting a dyno tune if you can.

I do agree the Maggie tune is designed for a completely stock motor, no exhaust and no CAI

you can always put the stock air filter / intake back on and be 100% safe. you don't have to worry about your exhaust as it actually lowers the boost a bit.

Congrats Man!!!

I think Janetty is still doing the "free" tune with the purchase of the SCT tuner. I'm sure they can drop it overnight if you need it quickly........

What tuner came with the Maggie? Maybe you can contact them (Janetty) to do a tune that is compatable with that tuner???? That would get to you pretty quickly via e-mail.

Don't get on it until you get a proper dyno tune. The can range from $400-650 depending on the shop and can take from 2-4 hours depending on how much attention to detail the shop pays.

what i would do, is make an appointment with a dyno shop and tell them that the car just had the maggie factory tune loaded and may need a tweak......make sure they can use the tuner that you have and that way you may not need a full tune written, maybe just a couple parameters changed to get it dialed in.

You guys are spooking me a little bit, I basically have the same set up (K&N) but with axle back exhaust and the MagnaCharger "stock" tune (SCT) for about 2000 miles now and because of the soot on my exhaust and drop of about .5 mpgs (maybe from a heavier right footO I was more worried about being too rich not to lean, and I haven't ran any qtr mile runs, but I've run it pretty hard. I do plan on having it dyno-tuned early in 2011 and have been quoted FI Dyno tunes in the $600 range.

They are scaring me too, better to be safe than sorry. BTW, I have cat-back abd the K&N and have not heard pinging but also have not jumped on it yet.

How good is a email tune? I know they get data provided by the scan from your car. I would like to go to Nick for my tune, the logistics make it hard for me since I work long hours in the valley. An email tune would be great if I could trust it and if it was as good as a custom tune by a good tuner with a reputation like Nick T newtech.
