Yeah like 4 of them. I'm not going to let them do it to mine!

I've been in Texas 11 years now. Never had a front plate, never been told to get one (been pulled over twice, inspections every year). I'd say you'll be safe going without.

That being said, I don't mind the front plate on the Camaro.

The front plate bracket is mounted to the front bumper with four rivits that come packaged with the other hardware. My dealer did not have a problem not putting the bracket on. I will be mounting my front plate with a bracket I got from swiftmotorsports.com that mounts under the bumper. Cost was 60 bucks but it will be worth it not to drill into the bumper.

According to my dealer they aren't required to install it, just required to provide it. The had it in sitting in the trunk, said they'd install it if i wanted it installed... but they didn't recommend installing it on that nice of a car I didn't even have to tell them not to put a dealer sticker on it!

I've been offered waivers for not mounting the plate by my dealers within the last few years. California requires them too :(

Im in texas too and I did not install my front plate. And never will. If you get a ticket fight it ... most judges will throw them out.

haven't had any issues in the two weeks i've had it yet, and I've driven right past plenty of state troopers and sheriffs.

Why would a judge throw out a ticket for no front plate, when the law says you need one? What would be the grounds of your argument?

Front Plate Bracket Simple Fix

Here is a simple solution...tell you dealer not to mount the front bracket! Then go to home depot and spend $5 on two anchor bolts 4" - you know the ones you use in sheet rock walls the have a spring loaded "Y" anchor. Also get some tubing, about two feet. Finally, get two 2" vinyl washers. Then fasten using the above to the bottom grill. It looks like this and it is easy to take off and is very secure. The small tubing by the way is to put on the edge so as not to scratch the paint....simply put a slit down the length and then line the bracket on the top and the two tabs on the bottom.

Check out the thread listed below for pictures of the hideaway front lisence plate bracket installed on my 2SS/RS. You can also click the link in the first post for pictures of a moterized version installed on another SS. You will need to drill three 5/16" diameter holes in the underside of the front facia. This would be the part which you would only see if you had a mirror under the front of the car.

I don't know about dealers being required to provide the bracket. Even though I live in IL, I bought my car in IN, a state that does not require front plates. I told them not to mount it, they did not even provide me with it. Not that I would use. I'll pay the fines.
Also, in 1991 I ordered a new Chevy truck, again, no front plate law in PA, and I was not provided a bracket that time either.
