They should allow adjustments if you already own a fuel efficent car for daily use, or if your buying two cars at the same time for the family. Then average the two, I know wishfull thinking, and the feds need thier tax money for our toys .

YIKES!!! Those are some healthy taxes! Hopefully - that EPS will help get ZL1 in good graces like the GT500 is.

The EPAS and Plasma Transferred Wire Arc (the fancy cylinder coating) combined was good for 0.5mpg.

Maybe it should be a household deduction, like when you do your taxes, the average household fuel eco would determine the tax... Including the lawn mower..

Heck, the 2011 GT500 has a combined fuel economy of around 17 MPG. It would, however, escape the tax according to the EPA chart if they used the HWY 23 MPG figure instead of the combined number. But the EPA clearly states that they use the combined formula when determining GG tax.
That is very possible, it would give some incentive to the manufacturer to do so. Remember though, real life averages in fuel economy is different then averaging two set numbers. Overdrive gears, final gears and driving style could see a better average than a mathmatical one. It also averages 55% city driving and 45% highway but that would see a lower average...

I found this in the link I posted

"The total amount of the tax is determined later and is based on the total number of gas guzzler vehicles that were sold that year. It is assessed after production has ended for the model year and is paid by the vehicle manufacturer or importer."

So you were correct somewhat...

It looks like the less Gas Guzzler Tax vehicles that a manufacturer sells a year, the less the year end tax is.. So the benefit is probably absorbed throughout the entire fleet.

Cereal?! That's pretty slick. I remembered reading a little about that technology. I probably made fun of it, but I also didn't nkow about the increase in efficiency. Every little bit helps!

Could be an argument against an auto ZL1 being offered by helping reduce market penetration and reduce the amount of GG tax per vehicle due to the less efficient auto MPG numbers.

While not a limited edition, I'm sure they prefer to keep this somewhat a niche vehicle and not offering an auto would help accomplish this. Well, that and a $50k+ price tag.
