I agree big price tag.
Reasons why I am getting. 2SS/RS pretty well loaded just not 21" wheels.
Will be STOCK GM not after market. Will be ON WINDOW STICKER.
These may or may not be good reasons but they are mine.

^^^No, those are very good reasons, certainly deserving consideration.

I also agree that it would be cool to have the body colored engine cover option printed on the window sticker rather than adding it later. That is the reason I have considered the option for as long as I have. It is just that since my car will be black with silver stripes I think the stock cover may actually go with the car better than the body colored one. The stock cover kind of has the two silver lines in the middle of the black cover. That will go well with the two silver stripes on the black hood.

Below is a picture of my 1976 Camaro Type LT.

Beautiful car lt. The blacked out grill looks awesome. I'm not a big fan of those wheels, although they were quite popular back in that era, so they are appropriate. How nice is the IROC? Always wanted one, but back in the 80's I was in a position similar to some of the younger guys here - I couldn't afford a new one and even a used one would have stretched my budget a little too thin, so I settled for a used standard Z28.

Still thinkin' about the engine cover. Black and silver is awfully plain. It would be nice to have the colored optional cover on the sticker, yet it's so expensive. Well, we all still have time to decide.

The Iroc is in good condition. It has T-Tops and I have replaced the rubber in the T-Tops and both doors within the last 5 years. I also replaced the T-Bar because the original one was rusted. I have also installed new factory seat covers. The paint is starting to show some age though. We plan to keep the car at least for a while after getting the 2010 SS/RS. The car has around 165,000 miles on it. The engine has around 115,000. Car still runs very good.

Concerning the body colored engine cover. Do you think the paint will be shiney or not?

I would say it'd have to be shiny cause for five bucks you can use vinyl dye and get any color you want. I think this is the route I'll go, I've used it before and it worked beautifully.

My '85 had T-Tops and at two years old they leaked. The rubber was fine, so I guess the problem was too little hold down pressure. I'm surprised your paint has held up so well. They didn't clearcoat back then. My gray continually oxidized, and by '95 there was primer showing through on the hood and trunk from removing dead paint everytime I waxed. Of course, that FL sun was much harder on it than at higher latitudes. Yours has to be one of the last on the road, way to go!

Well, from the picture of the Dale Jr. cover http://www.camaro5.com/forums/showth...t=engine+cover I'd say a matte finish, but the V6 cover shown here http://www.camaro5.com/forums/showthread.php?t=9318 is a better pic and looks very glossy, so I guess shiney has it.

if i was in yalls position i would just paint them my self $380 is way to much for engine covers...and if you are decent at painting then it will look the same as factory thats what i ended up doing to my SS it came with the factory color covers and started adding red into the mix becasue it looks nice so i went under the hood and painted some red and left some black and it look wonderful and even after driving from pa to ca it didnt show any signs of cooked rustoleum and looked good all the way up until i sold the car 3 days ago...long story short save the money and do it yourself id imagine everyone on here has a few tools in the garage and some old news paper

Am I the only one who thinks adding bolt-on options like the engine cover is sort of a waste of money when you buy the car? You roll a $380 cost into the whole purchase price and (if you finance it) you're paying interest. On a cover. By the time you're done paying it cost you $500.

It's the sort of thing that'll be on ebay for $199 by August

True....but the only reason I'm ordering the painted cover is so it shows on the window sticker. Otherwise I would just paint it myself. Same with the shifter, easy to install myself but I want the collectibility factor.

Anyone know why you can't get an engine cover in CGM?

.......or IBM, or SIM, or ABM...... Guess they're deemed not good engine colors. And the CGM would be awfully close to the stock black and silver.

Same reason you can't get a car in CGM I suppose. Maybe it will be available later on.
