I was under the impression you didn't want to disturb your neighbors.

The discoloration is normal for Stainless at normal operation temps of exhaust and is the only place the exhaust gases actually touch the outside walls of the resonator, so this is Perfectly Normal and not a problem.

Maybe the open center area works as a crude X pipe???? There is a small pipe at the bottom that might work as a Helmholz chamber??

Ted, how much quieter would the stock resonator be compared to the X pipe? I do want to respect my neighbors but would also like like to do a more complete T304, better flowing system all at once.... and after listening to more clips since I first posted I don't think LT's with a Borla touring catback would be too loud. That stock resonator looks like a GM, backyard, let's hide this stupid AFM drone on a muscle car project. Thanks for the input, I respect your knowledge and opinions.

A lot of technology to hide their AFM technology which should not be on a car like this.............

I guarantee you will not pick up a single HP by changing it out.

But it will get louder for sure.

Ted.

Not looking for horsepower as much as a complete exhaust done all at once, I understand the HP will come from the LT's and Cat's, but for an extra $500 I would rather get rid of the "designed for AFM" resonator. I have heard of mutiple people having the resonator fail and having to replace it. I would rather do a full system from the get go.

Ted,

I've got a L99 with cam, ARH Lt's, HI-flow cats, X-pipe , muffler delete. I got pulled over last night for noise (just a warning) but I would like to change exhaust parts out and not sacrifice HP. I've ordered a JBA axelback system, would putting the stock cats back on do anything for sound?

Cats will cut the noise down a few notches.

Exaust

Does it make sense to do this? Doug Thorley long tube headers, stock cats, remove the resinator, and install an x-pipe and leave the stock exaust from the x-pipe back for now. Any idea what this might sound like and do you think I will get a cel? Let me know your thoughts. (Please)

I hope to god GM engineers don't sign in here and read some of these posts. That "chamber" was probably a team of 5-10 engineers entire project on the L99 camaro for 3 years designing the acoustics and performance of that.

They days of 40 years ago where things were just slapped together for no apparent reason are long gone, everything has a purpose now and is optomized. Realize this before you start changing your cars parts, you might not always get what you wanted.

Should I just get the Headers and keep the stock resonator back (I want it on the quiet side, 530 am to work with neighbors, and can always get louder) with the first tune and then add catback later?.

Or will adding a catback later benefit from another tune, if so, maybe I should do all of it at once. Just a little concerned of being too loud at early morning and highway cruising.
IMO leave the big center resonator and change the mufflers (I have Loudmouth II's) to go with Kooks 1 7/8 headers and hi-flow cats. Great sound and fairly quiet until you stomp on it ---- then it REALLY opens up.
