Anyone have any proof that a little oil ingested into the engine will cause damage? Or deposits? In 3000 miles you might ingest several tablespoons of oil. Thats nothing compared to the 100s of gallons of fuel that get burned in the chamber. Fuel would create more deposits than oil.

I don't think it is a big deal. Most modern engines will run for 150k+ miles with just regular oil changes. 99% of cars don't have catch cans and they run just fine forever. If this were such a big issue I think GM would of done something about it.

I am not trying to step on anyone's toes but I am just giving my 2 cents.

Proof is at the dealership when they offer you their Throttle Body "tuneup" That is to clean out all the crap that gets into it when not running a catch can. Over time this buildup will also hinder overall performance.

This is where I'm at. The LS3 is not a new engine for GM--there are plenty of them that are driven hard and do not have catch cans. If the engine lasts for 150k, well, that's probably as long as I'm going to own the car anyway.

Prove that it hinders performance. Does it?

No offering the service doesn't. But not running one as i did on my CTS and after about 30k miles having the TB serviced and it having a real world impact on my idle and overall performance was all the proof i needed.

You will get varying degrees of is it worth it or not. To me it certainly is. And so does MOBIL 1 http://www.mobiloil.com/USA-English/...le_Bodies.aspx

All lights gone after battery disconnect. I was really surprised to see oil coming from the vacuum tube going to the intake tube

I just cannot see spending 150 dollars on something I can fix during a tuneup. (oil in the throttlebody)

I'm thinking about getting an 18 dollar catch can off Ebay.. Cut it open. Shove steel wool into it. Weld it back up and call it a day.

Not sure how seafoam works on these cars, but that's how some people do it. put some in the gas tank. it's patroleum based. but don't do it on my account. lol i'm just giving you information.
It won't do anything for the throttle body or intake to put it in the fuel tank (on the V6)..... I've not used it, but there is a spray that you can spray into the air make up tube while the engine is running and it should clean some of the gunk. I'd clean it by hand first and the spray sea foam.

Are you having an oil consumption problem, or just reacting to internet hysteria?

That same V6 is used in hundred of thousands cars and SUVs. Do you see Buick Enclave owners taking apart their intakes and worrying about getting a catch can? no.

Often the best thing to do, when there isn't a problem, is leave the hood shut.

I wonder how many of those cars/SUVs put aftermarket intakes, headers, exhaust, etc? Guess we should just leave the hood shut...

Love it! I made my own out of PVC pipe just to see how much it would collect. It works well enough that I left it on.

If you don't get it, you probably shouldn't post. No one said anyones car will break down any time soon. Maybe read what's going on and what a catch can does.

I did,way back when a post about catch cans was first posted. In that SAME thread was a mechanic with 20+ years experience that said oil in the manifold would NOT hurt our cars. SO there YA GO SMART-ASS!!!
