Just something I'd like to mention, but you may want to do some more searching if you're in the 32-33k range on the V6. I understand it's a 2LT but I paid under 32k for my 2011 1SS.
It might be in your best interest to wait and see whats available before you jump right in. When I originally went looking for a Camaro, the color I wound up with was not my first choice. However, the deal was the best I found and I took her home that day. Keep in mind I've been looking since they started rolling off the assembly line.

Test drive both, but even better, see if you can rent one for the weekend (finances permitting ~$90 a day). I had started getting interested and my wife rented a 2SS from Hertz for the weekend (thank god for her points) and found out it wasn't that difficult to go from a Toyota Tacoma to the beast.
Much to her chagrin, she got me hooked.

I know, but at 32k it was EXACTLY what I wanted instead of a 1SS that I would have to upgrade the sound on, not have leather, not have HUD, not have the bluetooth pack, not have the synergy green panels.

Most importantly, get what YOU want. The V8 is just ridiculously fun. All you have to do is imagine where the car should go, and it appears there as soon as you put your foot down. It's like having an extra-terrestrial super power. But, the flip side is that it costs more to purchase, costs more to insure, and fuel costs are higher. It's the sound/feel that gets me, though. Nothing will EVER replace the sound/feel of a large displacement American V8. |

If you are not a jaded V8 horsepower junkie, the V6 will provide more than enough power.
If you are planning on racing the car or intend to do thousands of dollars in mods, the V8 might be the way to go. For a DD/ primary car, especially if you are used to 4 cylinder vehicles, the V6 will have much more power than you are used to. The V6 responds well to bolt-on mods if you want a bit more power or better sound, and the aftermarket is really starting to come around with the turbo kits if you get bit by the horsepower bug down the road. For your situation, I think you will be more than happy with the six. I prefer the V8 in most situations but I couldn't justify the increased cost(s) of the V8 over the V6 for the daily driving that my car sees. Most of the "get the V8" responses are coming from horsepower junkies and guys that wouldn't consider the six in the first place. |

on that... I loved my supercharged 3.8L Grand Prix GTP. V6's are fun to drive until you drive the V8... It simply comes down to cost. If you can afford the V8 get it. If not, at lest your driving a camaro.

If the 5th gen V6 performed at the level of the 3rd or 4th gen V6's, it wouldn't have even been on my radar. It wasn't until I test drove it. But for 98% of the driving the car sees, it provides more power than I can safely use on public roads without endangering my license. That does not mean that the car does not perform extremely well during spirited driving. Are there occasions where I wish I had the SS? Sure, but usually those are situations where the extra power would just get me into trouble (sitting next to a GT or R/T at a stoplight, for example). If I were buying a weekend cruiser, or intended to run my Camaro at the strip or track more than on a rare occasion, I would have certainly sprung for the SS. But for most drivers, for DD duties, the V6 is a better car, IMO. I see a lot of posts on this site that make the V6 out to drive like a Camry, when that is simply not the case. The OP does not sound like what I would consider to be a hardcore performance enthusiast, so I would think the SS to be overkill in this situation, regardless of cost. My LS replaced a BMW 325is w/ sport package and manual trans, and the Camaro is faster, handles just as well if not better, and as much as I enjoyed the bimmer, I definately prefer the Camaro. To the OP: if the Subarus you are referring to were WRX's or STI's, you will probably want the SS, otherwise, the V6 should be fine. If you shop around, you should be able to find one for significantly less than MSRP. |

Just an FYI - Ordering for the Synergy Green and the panels has ended. The only way you're going to get the car you want is to find a dealer that already has one.
http://www.camaro5.com/forums/showth...green+ordering I had this same decision to make last month. I test drove both and found, while I love speed, the v8 didn't seem special to me. I'm coming from an Acura Integra, and the throttle response and torque just felt natural to me in the v6. Sure, the v8 was faster, but was it worht tightening my budget to have an extra two cylinders? No. Basically, I see the v6 as the more sensible choice. Better gas mileage (after break-in), still the great styling, and still fun to drive. Unless you plan on going to the track, I see no purpose for the v8 other than the exhaust note(which, thanks to the MRT I won't miss...)

Most people own a SS just for looks anyways, like others have said, many rarely use it to it's potential. I've driven quite a few fast cars and I am not dissappointed with my v6 at all. My b/f has a charger r/t v8 5.7 hemi and while I do enjoy driving it, my v6 is comparible to it. The hp isn't much difference. I believe his car is 350hp while my v6 which is lighter and gets better mpg is 312hp. It's still very fast for a v6.
Get what you want, I dont think you'll regret it. |

[QUOTE=Enchurito;3032948Plus his other argument is "For the money you spend on a decked out V6 you could get a base V8 and then personalize it" bah..[/QUOTE]
Personlizing the base V8 costs money too.. haha. |

Many a Camaro owner has been faced with this simple question:
A loaded V6 or bare bones V8 for the same money. I went with the 2LT V6 able to get all the following for the same money: Sunroof Console gauges Heated leather seats and side mirrors HUD Painted stripes Upgraded exhaust system Heritage grill A car that looks and sounds different than 90% of the other Camaros. I'm practicing my burn outs, just takes a better driver to do it with a V6. I would suggest if you ever had a manual, get it with the V6. It's an awesome combination with this engine and you have another $1,000 to spend on mods. |
