In some searching for info on the sealant I found this.
Quote:
(5) The inflator kit includes a tire sealant canister, an air compressor as well as a pressure gage in one unit. The inflator kit can be used to inflate one or more tires regardless of whether the

vehicle has a punctured tire or not. The sealant of the GM sealant canister does not damage the TPMS pressure sensor, and the TPMS continues to function.
It's the kit for a Cobalt or a G5

because tire sealant goo and an air inflator aren't going to help if you have a blowout.

The stuff GM uses is safe for your pressure sensors. think about it, they wouldn't use something to ruin a part of the car and have to replace under warrenty... if thire equipment causes damage to another price of equipment then they would have to cover it under warrenty...

Are the tires runflat on the SS models? If so then that might explain why there is no spare tire. My BMW has runflats and it didn't come with a spare. With this type of tire you can travel about 50-100 miles at around 60 mph(I think) before you need to replace the tire.

The odd of you having a blowout are pretty much nil if you take care of your tires.

well not always, I accidently hit a curb that unexpectedly jutted out (it was 4AM and very dark in that area) while doing about 30mph in my Sky and had 2 blowouts and busted one wheel.. so even if I had a spare it would not have done me any good.... Called Onstar, they sent a rollback wrecker and had it towed to the Saturn dealer at no charge to me.

So your admitting bad driving caused a blowout?

The bottom line is the odd's are pretty much nil if you take care of your tires. You could just as easily messed up the suspension or tie rod hitting a curb. Anyone want GM to put spare tie-rod and control arms in the trunk?

We can what if all day but statistically speaking if you take care of your tires odds are you'll never have to deal with it.

Then I must have some pretty bad luck, because I had a set of brand new GY Eagles, and one had a blowout on I-95 at about 65mph. They probably had 100 miles on them.

Also, you could take the best care of your tires, and all it would take is some sharp piece of metal to shred them at highway speed.

Don't forget about all those blowouts Ford Exploders had years back.

not even a leak or just a complete flat?

I'll take some of your luck. You seem to have lots.

you would have had to have seen the situation, anyone could have done that at that place... I have been driving since 1969 and that is the first and only time something like that has happened...

another case where you can ruin a tire without a blowout is get a nail in it at highway speed and by the time you realize someting is wrong your tire has overheated and started seperating... happened to me on the interstate, right rear tire on a front drive car, never gave any clue anything was wrong until it was too late..that tire had 3,000 miles on it..taking care of your tires will NOT prevent a situation where you may need a spare to get home...if I had had the tire pressure sensors though it would have warned me before the tire was runied and I could have used the pump and sealant and gotten home.
