Your first move was the correct one. Joining this forum and educating yourself about the camaro. When you go to the dealer you will unlikely know much more about the car than he/she will. Because you are female they will try to take advantage; we all know that or at least are wary of it. Let the salesperson talk to you about the car and come back to the forum and give us all a laugh. People on here are very knowledgable and willing to answer any question. Don't be impetuous and fall victim to the dealer before coming back to the forum for the correct answers.

Welcome.
But consider 3/11 the last day to be ordering...3/15 is a sunday, 3/14 is a busy day at dealerships, and the dealer may do ordering on Thursdays... Dealers may or may not have allocation for the first run of cars through September...and many are saying they do, but they do not and there's no way for them to prove it to you. Any dealer over his allocation is selling cars out of the last quarter of 2009 - not a bad thing, you'll still get a car, and the price is locked in regardless when it arrives, if it ordered BEFORE the date I mentioned above. |

if this applies but here in Florida you get a tax break if you trade in your car. The trick is how much you need on the open market to match your tax break with a trade-in
i.e. Cost of Camaro $36,000 your trade in value $16,000 you would pay a tax on $20,000. If you sell your car outright you would be taxed on the $36,000 and then they take off your down payment. I think I have this right

If you purchase this year you get a federal write off on sales tax so it isn't quite as big an issue as it would have been last year

I would suggest that you have the dealer give you a firm trade-in price on your car when the order changes status and is going to be built. Then you will have a month or so to sell it on your own and if you can't get more, then trade it in. This advise is worth just what it cost you. Good luck.

Oh, and on a side note.................. I got 1000.00 (refundable if there is a problem) if I just decide I don't want the car, it's non-refundable. Thanks for the offer though. |

Ditto on all advice given. Here's another, use your credit card for the deposit, AMEX if possible. Should you have to cancel the order, the dealership goes bellyup, whatever, you're less likely to be out the money. With the economy the way it is who knows what will happen between now and the day your car (is supposed) to come in. You can dispute the charge thru your credit card company. AMEX is best at this. Good Luck!

I could try and sell it myself, possibly for $2,000 more than trade in. That works out to be about $700 more in taxes. So it works out better if I can get the extra by selling it myself. So I plan on trying to sell it myself once I get the '94 Firebird fixed up a bit. I used Edmunds for my estimates, they've been pretty reliable for me in the past. I guessed on the taxes, I think it's 7% here, not sure if vehicle tax is a different rate. |

Thanks for all the replies everyone. Of course answers always lead to more questions. My boyfriend used to work at Henna as a service advisor so I'm hoping I can get some insider tips there. I'm not afraid to crawl around under the hood of a car, so I usually do pretty well dealing with the occasional dork who wants to pull one over on me because I'm a girl. I'll still be dragging my boyfriend along as backup though.
I'm still a little ditzy on the trade-in thing. KBB says my cars value is about 29k. I'm assuming GM will credit that towards the price of the camaro. But I still owe 18k on my infiniti. So how is the financing on my infiniti resolved? ![]() I saw there is an option to ad a subwoofer. I have a 12 inch punch and alpine amp in my infiniti that I love. Does the upgraded stereo package with the 2SS include a sub? Any feedback on dealerships in Houston or San Antonio? Is there anywhere that I could actually see a camaro besides an auto show? As far as allocation...Is there a waiting list if all the cars have already been ordered? Thanks everyone! |
