Drive 40+ miles in rush hour traffic everyday. I'd love to have a manual as a second car but I think i'd do insane and regret my purchase if I got one as my main car.

Drove a manual for decades. I have several reasons for getting an A6:

Traffic.

Old knees.

Laziness: want to kick back and not worry about shifting into the wrong gear.

Automatic more durable than clutch.

6 speed auto just as fast as 6 speed manual.

If I want to play, I can still use the paddles, but guess what, I almost never use them.

I do understand where the low opinion of automatics comes from. Old 3 and even 2 speed automatics were a joke. New autos are much different.

1) Stock to Stock, the auto is slightly faster than a manual. This is bone stock 1/4 mile, closed courses with a professional driver. I believe it was 0.2 secs faster 0-60, and 0.1 faster in the 1/4 mile.

2) The auto is slightly more fuel efficient than the manual.

3) If I find myself in a situation where I want or need to manually shift gears, I have paddle shifters, and have that option.

4) I know some people feel more engaged and get more enjoyment out of a manual, but I've simply personally never felt that way. I do understand the sentiment, though. I never use cruise control, because I feel too much like a passenger at that point, too disengaged from the car.

For me, I just couldn't come up with any advantages the manual held over the auto, other than sticker price. I'll give you that one. I felt the auto had more to offer, and it was what I would prefer to drive, all things being equal.

I'm pretty sure Autos are faster. Let me check with PQ and GTAHVT for validation on this subject.

I work for Yellowbook selling advertising. They pay for my gas, but not the wear and tear for my car.
