I've always associated that "V8 sound" withe the lope of the engine. Lope comes from the cam and depends on the grind. Re-cam a V6 and you can get pretty dang close to a V8 sound I'd think.

Unfortunately, with multiple mods, it's not as simple as just adding the numbers. For example, a CAI that gives 18 HP and an exhaust that gives 10 HP won't give 28 HP total. The only way to know what #'s your pushing is to get dyno'd.

But yeah, the V6 could be made to have the same power as current V8s, we'd just need nitrous or a super/turbo charger.

As for the sound, yeah I admit V8s sound awesome. We're just not gonna get that out of our 6s, but we have our own unique sound and we should enjoy that. Some people will do all kinds of mods to try and get the V8 sound out of a 6, but in the end it's probably just easier and cheaper to buy a V8 to begin with.

i have to differ with you.a 6 cyl. car will never sound like a V8.in fact the new V8s will not sound like the old V8 cars.why you ask ?.it is because the older cars had carburetors and the new ones have fuel injection.very different sound.i had a grand national, that thing would fly,but it sounded like a sewing machine with open pipes.through the years,we are giving up sound for speed, which is fine with me.

at idle it would be hard to differentiate depending on what pipes he's running, but once revved up it will sound like a lopey v6. theres just no substitute.

I couldn't even hear my stock V8 engine running until I put a Borla catback exhaust system on.

The OP is right about cylinder volume giving the LS3 L99 the basso profundo sound. A big V twin motorcycle like my Harley has a deep bark because of the huge cylinders. A Ducati has the same kind of bass sound but it is a little different because a Harley is a 45 degree V-twin and a Duck is a 90 degree V-twin. However a large displacement multi cylinder engine like a Kawasaki Ninja ZX1400 does NOT have that bass sound due to small cylinder volume. Consequently, a six cylinder Camaro would have to displace roughly five liters to sound at all like a V-8.

if so I think i might have to start adding some mods.
also would it be best to do them all at the same time so it could be tuned one time?
The CAI and Exhaust might look like that with a tune, consider if it is worth kicking your power train warranty.. shops will tell you want to hear, but I didn't see gains like this on either of those first two mods with a V8 even...unless the V6 unlocks some magic powers from behind the 6th dimension that the V8 cannot find...

Another wish I was a V-8 thread. Face it no matter what you do to a V-6 it will never do what a V-8 can with the same mods. I never heard a V-6 that sounded any thing like a V-8.
There are many factors that come into play here and bore size isn't one of them. Did you ever here a 289Hi Po? Very small motor but it still sounds great. There are V-6s that are more cubic inches than the 289 ,but guess what, they still sound like V-6s. If you want V-8 sound, the only way to get it is to buy a V-8.

+1

A nice v8 rumble and roar will not be simulated by a v6...

That said, I also like how v6's sound in their own right (ala 370z) and I really like how our v6 camaro's sound with the MRT v.2 exhaust.

Its all about what you want and like.
And some things you just wont be able to replicate on another platform. You can make fwd honda perform great on a track, but lets not try to get them to do tractor pulls bc it just aint in the cards...
