i get that....but some of the photo's show the symbol, which appears to be a push button, so why put it in there if its useless, doesnt make sense. unless the photots i saw were not of cars with the RS but im preety sure some were

You can turn DRL's off on anything if you are determined enough...plus who would want to give the cops a heads up that you are coming at speed during the day?...lol..Also if you want to be able on the RS to turn your fog lights on and off just interupt the line and add a switch

Here are some tricks on the Corvette so I imagine the Camaro would be similar or a step in the right direction.

Usually when you engage the parking brake one click the DRL's will go off..go find that sensor and keep it engaged.

Here is how to disable them permanently and it is reversable and does not affect the operation of any other lights. Cut and paste follows.
1. In the passenger footwell, lower the front carpet.
2. Remove the foot panel.
3. Locate the IPEC (Instument Panel Electrical Center) It looks like the fuse box next to the battery.
4. Remove the cover of the IPEC.
5. Turn it over and find the diagram of the components.
6. Locate relays 38 and 40. (38 controls the right DRL and 40 the left)
7. Pull each relay and carefully remove the cover.
8. Insert some type of insulator between the relay contacts (matchbook cover cardboard or the plastic from a coffee can lid works well) that you have cut to fit.
9. Replace relay cover, replace relay, replace IPEC cover, replace the footwell.
10. DONE!!

If you don't get the RS, they will be in the headlighst then.
I cant remember which country it was that did the research (sweden I think) that cars using DRL are 30-35% less likely to be in a accident. In England when I lived there for 30 odd years DRL was unheard of, but I drove ALWAYS with my lights on in the day time. I felt more secure I guess.

I think DRL should be mandatory on all cars.

DRL are mandatory in Canada. Any switches you looked at, if they were in Canada the switch will not allow them to be turned off. But rotate the knob left and the DRL will turn off on cars built for USA.

not according to every picture of a CTF car we've seen. all the non-RS cars use the headlights. i wish they'd use the parking lights, but they don't

that would make no sense at all. the fog lights will have a switch. how else would you use them at night when the DRLs are off?

So when there is fog at night we wont be able to turn on the "FOG LIGHTS"? Is this what I am reading here?

the fog lights will work like any other set of fog lights.

they will also serve as DRLs during the day (on RS-equipped cars)

Why would GM put lights on a car that cannot be used for what they are intended? It would be like putting headlights in the car, that you cannot control.

I'm not doubting your information, it just doesn't make sense to me. I guess we'll just have to find out when the first of us gets their RS w/fogs.

well... check out the '99 NBS full size trucks. with all the lawsuits in 96-98 over people getting rear-ended because the DRLs made them forget to turn the full lights on, they went overboard with the new automatic headlights. when the sensor 'thought' it might get dark, it would turn the lights on and manual control was lost. the only way to control the lights with the switch when it was dark was to set the parking brake one click to keep from engaging the sensor (but then you have to ride with the brake warning dinging away). the only way around this was to pull out the dash, unplug the sensor, and add a resistor in its place.

the next year, they added an override button.

there's been plenty of progress made since then, and i'm sure there will be a similar setup to the new cars that are out now. an auto setting (that it defaults to when you start the car) and an override/off setting
