Some of these thoughts have crossed my mind. I've got the cash to pay for the car but the longer it takes to get the car delivered to me the increased chance for issues to arise with the economy that might cause me to not make the purchase (dealership I bought from closes, lose my job, other family members lose their jobs, etc). If I already had the car and I had it paid off and then something happened, the odds are much greater that I'd be able to keep it. This is why I wish GM would accelerate the deployment of the vehicles on the sold orders. We are not living in typical times and while in the past slowly rolling out vehicles might not be an issue, I think that doing so now could actually hurt do to abnormal circumstances with the economy.

Yeah, if only the camaro was released before three years, maybe i could have gotten one. Especially here in Europe its not a good time to buy a v8

I looked at it like this, as much as I hate to admit it, and I hope that I'm wrong, this is probably the last go around for muscle cars as we know them. I don't wanna be sitting around 10 years from now saying, wow, I wish I had pulled the trigger and got that car like I hear so many of my father's friends say. I have saved over half of the price as a down payment, so even if something bad would happen, knock on wood, I can still easily afford it with my unemployment.

My brother told me I better think about getting a Ford because GM is going down the drain. I will have a Camaro in my driveway sometime this year. My job is secure and I haven't felt this way about a car since I was in my 20's and I'm 52 right now have no kids at the house anymore so I'm happy and can't wait.

Good question with no good answers. I'm getting one, I'm worried about the economy and my job, but I'm getting one dammit!

I was just talking about this with my wife on the way home from work today. I sold my 2007 Jeep Rubicon, which was paid for, so I have the money to buy my Camaro outright. But I asked my wife if it would be wiser to use the $35,000 to pay off all our debt and some of the house. It was really a retorical question, but I asked it anyhow. I agree with some of the others who say this may be one of the last years to get a new Camaro and these will be very valuable some day. Both of our jobs are secure, so I will be buying it. It does help the economy, just hope it's not too little too late. Also, irpq11 has a good point...the V6 is a good option and much cheaper

There's nothing wrong with being prudent. As someone said in another thread, our economy is in the situation it is because people and institutions were imprudent with their spending and knowing what they're getting into. If there's a non-negligible chance something negative could drastically affect your income (namely, a layoff or your company going out of business), there's no reason to be buying a new car, period. This is even more acutely the case if you have any dependents.

I've been laid off from the plant that makes the wheel bearings for the Camaro (among many other GM vehicales) and I will be seeing my dream disappear if I can't go back or don't find a new job

Ditto. From the first night I saw the Camaro on the movie screen, I started mapping my finances and savings for this. If need be, I will spit twice at this Recession.

No one takes a goal away from me that I smartly planned and worked so hard to achieve. Uncle Sam needs to move along, he'll just get a glare and a growl from me.

I've never really been in the "right" situation to buy a new car, but I've always managed to make it work. I am going through a divorce and pretty much the toughest year for me right now and it's scary, but the Camaro has been the one thing that gives me hope. It's what I look forward to everyday and I'm 90% sure it's going to happen. I am still working on paying down other debts that's why I don't complain about the delay in production. Hopefully by May when my car arrives I'll be in the perfect situation.

My car payment will really only be about $200 more a month than I currently pay and I figure if need be I can juggle other bills...even cancel my cable bill if necessary to afford this car. Behind my mortgage this car will be priority #1.
