At least 99% of the people who see a ZL1 will not know it is anything other than a regular Camaro. No status symbol there, I'm afraid.

Unless you add a big ole ZL1 banner (whatever they're called) at the top of your windshield, then people would know. but heck, thats like Ricky Bobby adding Fig Newtons logo across his whole windshield. Might have some visibility problems.

That's a good way to look at it, to represent the hard work you've done.

I wonder what will come first 2012 CGM or ZL1...

I'm thinking that someone concerned about "status" would more than likely spend roughly $50K on a Corvette, not a Camaro.

A ZL1 is still "just a Camaro" to most people.

I buy cars because of the way they make "me feel". A car that I can just stare at in my garage. A Car that puts a grin on my face when I drive it. I really don't care what other people think about it.

And with this said, that is why I'm buying a ZL1. It's because it's the car that does it for me, not because of what others think.

x2 and a vette isn't really any type of status symbol either.

For 50k and a STATUS car you're going to have to buy something used .
i say forget the status agenda and go with the new ZL1.

It's not a status symbol for me. I'll be driving it as a toy, and racing it from time-to-time. I could care less what others think about the car. I know I'd like to share my enthusiasm with my fellow CAMARO brothers and sisters, but to many others - it's just a car, and that's fine by me. I know what it is, and what it means to me, and that's what should count, IMVHO.

I general, the top of the line car has more status because it cost more, has more features like horsepower, torque, looks, prestige, etc... but it still a Camaro; it not a BMW, Audi, Mercedes, Porsche, Jaguar, etc.... So if you want real status, need to go to the list above! If you want top of the line status, then Bentley, Rolles Royce, Ferrari, Lamborgini, Pagani, Aston, etc... are the ones to own. Of course, you need the $$$$ to play in the top line status cars.

Bucket List

Its not about status... It's about respect for American Muscle, creativity, design, competitive spirit, performance and all at an affordable, reachable, price. Not to mention an iconic Camaro. What legendary vehicle has any of the above mentioned imports resurrected that evokes the emotions like this one does with so many Americans? NONE!

A once in a generation feat accompli.

And YOU get to LIVE it, Own it, Experienced it, with all the joy and excitement that comes with it... Admit it, its like a Bucket List item you just NEED to cross off!

Thanks GM for making the ZL1 alive again! I am glad some of you Tyranosaurus Rex's are still amongst us! LOL.

I guess it doesn't matter what you really buy...

You could buy a $2 million street car but you don't own a formula 1 pit crew. You could own a pit crew but you don't have a jet airplane. You could have a jet but you don't own a submarine.

So it comes down to buying what you like and want (as long it's feasible for you) and enjoy it for what it means to you.

This has been helpful! Thanks everyone!

I buy Camaros because I'm a Camaro guy. No matter how successful I become, I will always own at least one Camaro. Right now, I have three of them. I also have other cars that some would consider status cars: Viper, C6Z06, CTS-V, etc... I buy cars because I enjoy them, not really to impress others. I'd never settle for buying a car to gain imaginary status, if I didn't enjoy driving the car. Besides, some of the most wealthy people I know don't care about cars at all. Cars aren't a symbol of wealth or success in this country, they usually just tell people how bad your priorities are. If your cars total up to more than your home or investments are, you may agree

So I wanted to get your opinion, is the ZL1 just a status vehicle for everyone or those who buy it will actually use 550 HP for track racing.

As for me I can afford a ZL1 but I don't plan on racing it at all, so with all the racing features on it, is it worth the purchase? since it will be my daily driver, is it smarter to get a 2SS?

Because of the CGM situation I have to wait anyways for a 2SS, so what is it, get a ZL1 because you can (status) or 2SS?
If you don't plan on racing at all, why get the SS? The 300 HP 6 has all the power you need (and more) for a daily driver.
