This past January I bought a New 2010 Mustang GT Premium, I picked up at 4:30 in the afternoon after the dealer preped my new car and by 9pm I was put into a wall by a hit and run and the car was gone no more Mustang.

He was probably drunk as hell...probably his/her front bumper tore into your side as he/she was leaving.

Hopefully they didn't hit anyone driving on the way out.

$2K damage. Luckily, for hit and run, my insurance considers it "uninsured motorist" so my deductible was reduced. Hopefully yours will be too.
Good luck with the repairs! Mine was good as new in a week, thanks to a GREAT body shop...
Good idea on the uninsured motorist, thanks. I will ask that of my insurance company. Can you PM me who your provider was and original/adjusted deductible? I only have a $250 on the camaro, so it is not overly painful. Thanks again.

As I said before not knowing is the worst part.

What I do these days- it's very rare I park anywhere near other cars. I usually only drive to and from work and there's a lot I park in that's always empty. I always cover my car too. It's a hassle but you'd be amazed- a good cover can absorb some pretty good whacks.

Also if I'm parked next to a car I think will be a problem I take my phone out and snap a picture. You never know when that could come in handy. Most of us now have phones with halfway descent cameras, it's time to start using them.

I've had my Camaro for about a year and have managed to avoid any dings... so far so good.

But I feel for you and can only pass along the words my Grandmother always said to me-

"Don't cry for anything that wouldn't cry for you".

You wouldn't believe how often I've had to repeat that in order to keep my sanity.

The photo of the neighbor car is a good idea, unfortunately I assumed the Challenger driver would be more careful than a driver of a POS; bad assumption. And parking far away is not always an option, especially in an urban area. But, even if you do park away from the crowd and next to no one, someone may park next to you.

Case in point. No one around and plenty of closer spaces and the jackwad in the truck had to park next to me.

And relating a story does not equate to crying. I was glad that no one from my vehicle was injured; cars can be fixed.

No, I didn't say you were crying. It's a saying my Grandmother used that I was just relating. But its not meant to be literal - or should I have explained that?

Nope. I know you meant it figuratively. In my work, crying means whining.

To counterbalance the "bummer" feeling of the "hit and run" thread I'll share my story:

End of May mid-afternoon I'm knee deep in work at a gov building when the PA system crackles stating would the driver of a black 2008 volvo blah blah blah please contact security. I was thinking they must be trying to inform the owner that someone hit their car or something. 10 Minutes later, security shows up at my desk saying "now Steve, don't get upset..." (they know me lol). Apparently, the driver of the volvo had sped through the lot and somehow managed to hit my car 3 or 4 times trying to park next to me (I always park razor close to a curb way the hell away from other folks). After realizing she had struck my car several times, she hit my car again leaving the spot and went to park on the opposite side of the lot. How do I know this you ask? Well...there were 7 witnesses standing in the immediate vicinity all snapping cell phone pics and taking video clips of this event after the initial impact lol! 2 had actually followed her to where she parked and got the tag and vin #'s. They did not engage her but instead immediately went to security, who also summoned the Agency police . SCORE!! Long story short, she got hit with $10k in fines, 24 license points, prohibited from operating a motor vehicle for 2 years and 18 months probation (immediate arrest if caught operating a vehicle). Got the damage fixed and looks like new. Best thing is even with all the times she nailed the rear driver quarter and bumper she somehow only managed to do $527 worth of pain. Thanks to the consideration of all the gov and contractor folks who helped out this one turned out to be a win!

Hysterical ending: Poor dolt works at a subway near the facility and looks thoroughly miserable every time I see her (we never met, nor spoke so she has no clue it's me she dinged). Figure a 17 year old working there should only take 2+ years to pay off the charges every dime goes to paying the fines.
